Bwahahaha. Piecemeal RNG generation is the best. Though having a unified location, why of location, and world setting sanes things up a bit.

Seconding digging machine course of action.

Running with this. Starting from this turn on you will now have some short notes in a spoiler at the bottom of the turn. ^^^

"Boy! Toolbox!" you say, and Aragox obediently fetches it. Its empty rattling would bring an acidic tear to your eye if you were the type to mourn your losses, but you stopped doing that the seventeenth time your dungeon was destroyed by a rival Keeper. You open it up and pull out the wrench, then open the maintenance hatch on the drilling machine. (48) You work on the machine, but can't improve its effectiveness with your current equipment.

We don't want to send him to the town; they might catch him. We should instead get our mining machine running, as we require more vespene gas metal.

Before I run a turn, I'll say this: Aragox going to town to learn about it is a fairly neutral action and I won't punish you for it. However, sending him there to steal something or sabotage something would carry a risk, and a bigger one than normal since you don't know anything about it. Finally, about the machine: I was rolling 1d4x10 for your starting stuff to see how effective it was (+10 on males for charisma and -10 on females additionally) and I forgot to do it for the machine because I went to roll the turn to see if it would be better or not before I did it. >.> (3) Your machine has a 30% chance of doing what you want it to now. I'll edit it into the notes and run a turn here in an hour or so.

Oh, if the town isn't hostile right now we can send him to see what is there.

Actions:
IronyOwl: Use Machine
Qloos: Review Book of Spells
filiusenox: Patronize Aragox
Roboboy33: Send Aragox to town for information
10ebbor10: Have Aragox run recon on surrounding areas

You put the wrench away and lean way over to look Aragox in the eyes, using your skimpy outfit to its best advantage. Unfortunately this would really only work if he was at least five or six years older than he currently is. (25) Nevertheless he does feel loyalty towards you since you took him in and raised him for the past three years, but you'd better be careful. You're going to give the poor child an Oedipus complex. "Aragox, be a dear and scout the surrounding area for me, would you?" you ask in your breathiest tones as you put a finger to his chin and tilt his head upward. You have to stay in practice, after all. "And check the nearby village, too. It may prove to be of... interest." Aragox, flustered, attempts a salute. "Right away Mistress! Anything you say Mistress!" He practically trips over his feet as he leaves.

You smirk at his retreating form, then turn back to your current belongings. What you could use right now, you decide, is a hallway. You can build a few rooms off of it later for sleeping and such. You turn the machine on and point it towards the far wall. (11) The machine comes to life, suffering no ill effects from the failed tinkering earlier, and begins drilling into the wall and scooping out the dirt. It really is a wonderful device, you think to yourself as you turn away to your grimoire. It is your starting spellbook and contains only steam spells; all the tomes containing other abilities were lost in the retreat. Unable to help yourself given your nature you run your hand lovingly over the human-leather cover before opening it.

(51) You know this book by heart. Studying it won't be of any help in furthering your knowledge, but you do get a quick reminder of the things you are capable of: creating steam from water or heat, controlling it, and banishing it. All the other magic-practicing demons laughed when you chose steam! "What an idiot Nici is!" they said. "Fire is all a demon needs!" Well, you showed them! You showed them all what steam - combined with a little elbow grease and the right tools - could do when you razed the magic academy with your machines!

Calm down, calm down, you're not insane... just a little over-excited right now. You close the book and put it back among your meager possessions before leaving to observe the tunnel your machine made. You really should get around to naming that, you think. (37) It's a decent corridor. A little too short for your liking, but you can expand upon it later. Too bad you didn't strike any flux stone or anything, but this close to the surface you're not surprised you're only finding dirt. While you're looking at it, Aragox returns. (9) "I found out where we are, Mistress!" he announces happily. "This is Mount Al'Kavi, right near Axemark Crossing!" Axemark Crossing... oh yes, your third Dungeon was near here, decades ago. You thought you recognized the area. That would put you almost a thousand miles from your previous dungeon deep in the jungles of Lon Lagoon, though. Any chance of recovering your previous items from the invading Keeper would be long gone by the time you got back.

"I looked around town for you, Mistress, and it looks like it's a small village, maybe about twenty buildings," he reports. You do some quick mental calculations. It's a crossing so one building is an inn, one a tavern, and one the town hall, so another two are probably food storage. That's fifteen homes and if one were to assume families of two parents and at least three children - you know how these humans breed - then it was a population of roughly seventy-five people.

Spoiler: Notes (click to show/hide)

Apparently the specific demon we are is a Night Maiden. >.> Also, just to clarify if anyone's unsure: the rolls are all 'roll-under.' 1 is the best result, 100 the worst.

Have the Machine carve out a medium-sized room.
Look and see if you have an axe.

Have Aragox look in town for any shops, and see what wares they sell.
