I earned that pen by wading through rivers of blood and climbing mountains of skulls - some of said blood and skulls were even Greek. I deserve it. Besides, it will come in handy for writing my name on burning Soviet takns...

Welcome to the Eastern Front, generals!  At last we will pit our warring skills against the Russian Bear, an enemy worthy of our 105mm shells and potato-masher grenades.  Nearly all of our noble fighting men from the Greek campaign have arrived here in Poland for the upcoming campaign, rested and ready for battle.  However, we've been allotted a good deal of Prestige Points (currency for obtaining fresh divisions) to bulk up our forces for the campaign.  I've kept a good portion of these in reserve, so as our needs manifest we can obtain the sorts of troops we need.  I don't really know what to expect... I've never been to Russia before.

June 22nd, 1941
The sun is shining and the gunmetal is gleaming as our troops prepare to storm across the Bug river that forms Russia's western border.

I've photgraphed the minimap so y'all can get a quick grasp of the geographical outlay.  The dots with a halo are our main objectives.  The little x shaped dibbuns are airfields.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Here's one of our newest toys.  The roar of this beastie will have the Reds wetting their trousers in Moscow.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Fuhrer sent us some more elite troops in those camouflaged pajamas.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Here's the Northern Corps.  I ordered us a new Panzer IVF division, the 26th, and these tankers are still wet behind the ears.  The paint has yet to dry on those new rigs.  They'll make us proud.  Unfortunately both of these river crossings will be bloodbaths unless we smash the Red infantry to bits before attempting any crossing.  It's also a bad time to cross when enemy air power is still strong - they'll nail the troops on the bridge.  That will slow us down here.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Central front.  I have no idea what's over there in the shadows, but we'll have to send our feelers out.  If the recon bus doesn't show any AA emplacements, I'll send in a Bf109 wing to look around.  I really don't want to get the FJ divisions annihilated this time, so I'm going to hold back on sending them in until I'm sure we have air superiority.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Southern front.  This should be a breeze to break through, with the help of our mega-cannon.

Lastly, I'm nervous.  This game always frays my nerves when I get my ass whooped.  There's a lot of Reds out there, lurking in the Fog of War.  Thankfully we have technological and tactical prowess the Bolshevik does not.  We will crush them!

Out of curiousity, how many loyal commanders do we have left out there?  And would you lot prefer to keep your old assignments?  Any new readers, there's lots of noble divisions that don't have Bay12 generalleutnants yet.
I'm guessing Sheb, Monkeyhead and Elfeater are in.  Elfeater, the 23rd FJ is yours to command.  Here's your pistol and grenades.  We've gotten some additional funding from Berlin this season so we're distributing ballpoints to all FJ commissioned officers.  Make us proud!

As a matter of fact, there are!  Let's have a look here...

The 26th Panzer Division's commander was decapitated when inspecting a malfunctioning gasket last week in Warsaw.  You seem like the perfect candidate for the job!  Congratulations on your assignment, Generalleutnant.

June 24th, 1941
BTW, one turn on this campaign = two days.

Wow!  Shit got real pretty fast out here.  Looks like we're a little outnumbered by Soviet aircraft.  They came out of the fog like banshees.  Our losses were slighter than they could have been.  Fortunately we have two units of Flak 88's watching over Army groups north and center, and smaller 3.7cm flak on the southern front.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Our attack on Grodno is going pretty well.  The 15cm artillery unearthed the defenders from their battlements, when I dispatched Generaleutnant Taricus and his 36th Grenadiers across the bridge leading into the city.  It's not a favorable attacking position, but their skill and firepower should have been enough to blast their way through the defense.  They took about 25% dead and wounded in the assault, fighting bravely through the bottlenecked defenses, and dug in.  In the morning, Soviet aircraft swept in with guns blazing, but failed to strike any significant targets among the grenadiers and they hunkered down through it.  I suspect they'd been drinking.  How else do you miss the bridge?

Otherwise, one of our Bf109 wings stumbled over an AA position by sheer bad luck and lost a couple fighters.  Bah!
We had a proper tank battle in the fields alongside the river opposite Grodno.  The 26th and 19th Panzer Divisions engaged a force of Soviet T-26 tanks, who fought back pretty viciously, actually, before being forced back to the Nieman river.  Soviet fighters strafed the 19th Div. and knocked out a few too many tanks for my comfort.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
We've only met some halfhearted resistance along this main artery so far.  The Red infantry is scattering.  Note, I also obtained a new wing of Bf109F's, the 25th Wing.  They're green pilots, but we'll need them to win this air war.  We now have three fighter wings and one of tactical bombers against five Soviet fighter wings and one tactical bomber (so far as we know).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
We're bombing the hell out of them.  Not much to say so far.  Clearly it looks like a better idea to ford the river below Brest and bypass the fortress until we can shell it to pieces.

Current unit assignments:
NotAQuisling - 26th Panzer Division.  These are Panzer IV D's and fresh off the assembly line in Germany.
Taricus - He's leading the 36th SS Grenadiers, who saw action in Greece during April and earned their stripes in battle there.
Monkeyhead - Of the 1st Fallschirmjagers, of course.  Last seen splattered with blood somewhere around the officer's saloon.
Elfeater - The new commander of the 23rd Fallschirmjagers, who were commissioned for the Greek campaign and have a pretty impeccable combat reputation so far.
And for the others (if they still want them):
EuchreJack - 22nd Panzer Division.
DarkerDark - The 10th Grenadiers, one of my dearest infantry divisions.
Sheb - The 16th Panzer Division.
Simmura McCrea - The 15cm artillery battalion.

Fishbreath (traitor!) commands whichever infantry division is defending Volkovysk.

Ahah! Well, if you got a unit of better tank, I'd take that, otherwise leave me with my old faithful 16 Div.

I'd be happy to take command of a unit - Pioneers if you have any. I've grown fond of their 'we don't care what type of unit you are, you're going down' ways.

Also, that fortress is filled with pain and misery.

We'll soon see if Russian cats react the same way as Greek cats when hit by a 15cm shell. Current reports say Greek cats turn into a fine red mist, which might please the Russians. We'll see if we can't turn them green or something.

Jun 26th, 1941
Things are heating up around here.  The Reds definitely put up a better fight than the Greeks, truth be told.  Enemy strafing attacks are doing damage to our armored divisions.  We need to conquer the skies!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Taricus got his 36th Grenadiers off that bridge onto a sound beachhead among the woods on the periphery of Grodno.  They're holding up well and systematically pushing back the defenders.  The city will fall to them today.  Simmura McCrea's cat-disassemblers has been making short work of the Reds.  He was using the experimental Green-spray shells, in blatant violation of the Geneva convention.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Our orderly iron fisted advance is beginning to get confused.  I made a poor choice to send that Stug III unit so close to the enemy, unprotected, and they paid for it.  I didn't expect them to take an offensive defense outside the city.  Enemy fighter planes are really harassing our armored columns. Our pilots have been dogfighting ferociously to keep up.  But they've earned some honors:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I'll get that flak 88 moved up from the west side of the river asap.
BTW, USEC_officer, the enemy cavalry is Russian, if that's what you were asking.  We have some of our own, too, thoroughbred Prussian coursers.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Herr Robert 'Sheb' Scholz, you're a hero!  The 16th Panzer Div moved in to cover our rearguard today after that unexpected attack, dealing some ferocious blows against the Reds.  Attack +2 is no small boon to our fighting tanks, either...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It appears the Reds are spending their available resources on reinforcing Brest just as we are about to storm it.  These three AT positions popped out of the ground like mushrooms after the rain... Well, it wont do them any good because we aren't bringing any armor to Brest anyway.  Ha!
The 10th Grenadiers and our cavalry made a daring assault yesterday across the Bug river, overwhelming the Bolshevik infantry holding the far bank.  Commander DarkerDark of the 10th is currently AWOL, so the assault was led by Generalleutnant Jay Cin, second-in-command of that division.  Our losses were very slight.  Our socks, however, are soaked.  Now that we've secured a crossing, we'll hustle our other infantry across and strike Brest from behind.

Unit Assignments:
JacenHan - Acting commander of the 10th Grenadiers.
Hanzoku - We don't have any pioneers on hand, any other preferences?  Though I'll look into getting us some.
