Your drawing seems familiar. Do you run a webcomic?

If you've ever played Broken Picture Telephone, or more recently, Doodle or Die, you might have seen my stuff. This is the style I use for those type of fast paced doodle games... Or you might have seen 40k related stuff in this style posted on a certain popular image board a few years back.

Panzer IV D? Not bad I guess, although they are kinda weak. I approve you decision not to send them on their own in Skpoje.

Unfortunately, the whole Panzer IV family was based on faulty ideas regarding tank warfare.  But since the Greeks have no tanks, you should be fine for now.

Speaking of vapourization, I had an update nearly ready to go this morning when my computer got sacked by a virus.  All of that  went up in smoke.  It was my own fault for carelessly downloading a pox-ridden torrent, looks like.  Luckily I'd backed up save files and screenshots onto an external drive and am reinstalling the game on this backup laptop as I write this.  Hopefully everything should be back to normal pretty soon.  Let's just hope this game runs on Vista...

That rig was on it's last legs anyway.  To hell with it!  I've had that thing for eight years.

BTW, DarkerDark, that comic has me in stitches!  I hope to see more artistic interpretations as this debacle glorious campaign goes on.

Here's a double-update.

April 9th, 1941

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The 23rd had a textbook perfect landing in the fields outside of Skopje.  After regrouping, the paratroops humped a few kilometres until reaching the outskirts of the sleepy Yugoslav city at dusk.  They moved into attack positions under the cover of darkness to assault at first light today.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
On the main front, we commenced our assault on the infantry positions east of Strumica.  It's key that we break through here, otherwise our advance southward will be hopelessly choked on the one main road leading south.  Two wings of Bf109s were diverted to strafe the entrenchments and the enemy artillery battalion stationed behind the lines, with mediocre results.  Around the same time, the Bulgarian artillery behind our lines shelled the center of their line to prepare the way for our infantry.
The Greeks put up a stiff resistance.  Our casualties yesterday were light.  Field commanders were feeling out the enemy positions, not committing to all-out assault.  The 22nd Div. was able to punch through a gap in the enemy lines and is holding the highway south of town.

The 36th Grenadiers moved up the highway and settled into position for a full-scale assault on Strumica.  This will be their baptism of fire, as it happens; they are a raw green unit.  For some reason, they get the cool camouflage uniforms, though, and an Opel to match.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
In an effort to improve their image, the Italians have really turned things around.  With the help of two Italian air wings, the Greeks were driven out of their hillside entrenchments and defeated in open battle.  One of the Greek infantry divisions was completely wiped out.  Without those air strikes, I don't know what would have happened.  So here they are after battling on the 9th, marching east to meet the enemy counterattack.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Nothing exciting on the high seas, just yet.  A British fighter wing has been spotted doing reconnaissance over the fleet, so at least we know what we're facing as for enemy air power.

Here are the most recent developments as of today.

April 10, 1941

Yesterday was full of firefights.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
At first light, our tactical bombers blasted the Yugoslav defenders of the city out of their entrenchments.  Before the dust had settled, the 36th Grenadiers mounted a full-scale assault on the city, taking a fair share of casualties.  This attack was followed by a wave of Panzers from the 19th Div. (posted just north-east of the city) that completely crushed the remaining resistance in one fell swoop.  Well done, tankers.  Columns of POWs are currently being marched northwards along the highway in droves.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
On the highway south of the city, the 22nd Panzer Div. under Generalleutnant EuchreJack faced off admirably against an armored assault by a British tank unit of Mark IV's.  Almost half the Brit tanks were knocked out of action, but our Panzers took only light damage.
In the trenches, the Greek defenders holding the center of the line are fighting like lions against our onslaught.  They're nearly out of ammunition, and only one of five defenders remain, but all our advances have been hard-won.  I expect we'll break through in today's assaults and capture the artillery and flak emplacements to boot.  Then we can encircle the remaining defenders and make short work of them.  They've fought nobly, I'll give them that.
Also, the 1st Fallschirmjagers have jumped, though they've not landed in the best location or condition.  They took some flak during the jump, and I expect they'll get hammered remorselessly before they can regroup sufficiently to attack the emplacements outside of Salonika.  It will be a miracle, really, if any of them get out of there alive.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Italians, meanwhile, have been having a hell of a fight over there to the west of Monastir.  I've got to hand it to them, they've been holding their ground under repeated attack and are effectively fighting back in turn.  That artillery on the hillside has been hammering away non-stop for the last 24 hours and is in need of an ammo resupply.  In fact, without their artillery the Italian divisions have no chance of breaking through in their current condition, now that I think of it.  They should hunker down and re-equip today, too, otherwise they'll be torn to shreds pretty soon.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Lastly, the Skopje assault went smoothly; we did not capture all of our objectives within the city yesterday but were able to wear down the defense without sustaining a significant number of casualties.  Sheb's panzers will go into action today regardless, after the artillery and paratroops can mount their assault.  It should be a breeze for the tankers.  Then the next stop is Monastir, to rescue our Italian comrades.

I think that's all I've got.  Hm... these briefings always give me an appetite.  Sauerkraut and brauts in the officer's mess, anyone?

So, can I get my name in as a commander of one of those soon to be ill fated paratroop units? :) What better way to obtain glory as sitting on a pile of dead bigger than my house - does it really matter if they are ours or the enemies? :P

Actually, I don't see why you're obsessing so much about those trench. Isn't it better tobypass them and rush for the cities? The Führer is waiting!

I agree with Sheb, the deadline on this mission is tight.

Glad to see my tankers living up to their full potential.  Although, our equipment was far superior to the enemy's.

April 11th, 1941

Good morning, generals!  Our offensive is really picking up some momentum, now.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
In Skopje, our well-trained forces conducted an almost-surgically precise assault that swept aside all enemy resistance.  The 23rd FJ moved in after the morning bombardment and nearly eliminated all resistance without taking any significant number of casualties.  For a green unit, I'm impressed.  Shortly afterwards, Sheb's 16th Panzer Div. rolled through town and shattered any remaining pockets of Yugoslav resistance before rolling onwards towards Monastir, via the paved highway leading south. Huzzah!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Italians have been fighting hard for three days now, and there's no respite in sight.  Enemy command has pulled two Anglo divisions out of the woodwork, and they hit our Italian infantrymen hard, coming out of the Fog of War like banshees on the wind.  Sheb's 16th Panzers blew the holy hell out of the NZ troops, though; they must have been out of their minds to attack our armor in open terrain.  The Italian 14th Infantry hoofed it a few kilometres south after getting caught between the Aussies and Greeks and taking heavy losses.  The Italian artillery will be back in action now that they've resupplied.  Between the German troops that just arrived and our air power, I'd say Monastir will fall very soon.  Especially since those cavalrymen are finished off - those damn horsemen are good shots!
I have also brought that 105mm artillery down the highway as well, to help out at Monastir.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The Greek infantry we were fighting here at last succumbed to our assault, only after they'd been reduced to 10% fighting strength and completely ran out of ammo.  I'll admit that's admirable fighting spirit, enemy or no.  Now that we've broken through the line, its time to rush infantry down to Salonika to take out those artillery and flak emplacements, and their ridiculous ammo dump, too.

The 22nd Panzer Div. continued slugging it out with the British armor blocking the highway, speaking of which, where's Generalleutnant EuchreJack?  I've got to pin this on his tunic:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Nice work, tankers!

Here's the situation as it stands this morning:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The cavalry blocking the highway should be no match for our 19th and 22nd Panzer divisions.  The 1st FJ had a hell of an engagement yesterday.  The British armor after getting walloped by the 22nd fell back through Salonika to pop back out east of town to rub out those poor paratroops.  Were they in for a surprise!  The paratroops were ready for that onslaught even with one-third of their men dead or missing, and completely crushed the armored attack, disabling all of the tanks.  Herr Oberst Monkeyhead distinguished himself in the fight, personally leading the furious counterattack that won the day, a Luger in one hand and flinging potato-masher grenades in the other (more for show, really, than anything else).  They still took a beating from the artillery down at that airfield, though, and won't last long unless they get out of the fray soon and regroup.
That panzer 38t unit sandwiched between Greek infantry divisions confronted the AA emplacements behind the trenches, though failed to surprise them and took a beating when they leveled the cannons at the approaching tanks.
Although it would be a shame to lose this unit, these tanks are dated and in their stead we could deploy one of our reserve divisions in the case those guys get wiped out.  Right now our deployment roster is full-up.  I was thinking once we move further down the line that we could disband the Bulgarian infantry to make room for our own infantry divisions.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Lastly, one of our reconnaissance cruisers stumbled across a pocket of British warships anchored at Athens.  There'll be an engagement pretty soon, and we'll find out how the Italians fight at sea!

BTW, thank you staff generals for your advice on the entrenchments.  I've decided to make all haste for our objectives.  My only concern is, wont those troops hit us in the rear later on if we leave them behind?

New unit assignments:
Monkeyhead - Oberst (Colonel) of 1st Fallschirmjagers.  May his command be long-lived and illustrious.

I'm sure you have infantry that aren't motorized.  Let them deal with the forces you bypass.

Outstanding - tanks are for cowards to hide in. No disrespect meant Obersts Sheb and EJ. The mountains look like a nice place to hang out in and stifle more enemy armor, but fall back and regroup if we must, as someone needs to deal with the enemy infantry we bypass. :)
