I am surprised and hurt that no one wants to be a Luftwaffe commander.  I love this, and would love to command a unit of fighters.

July 16th, 1941

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Two days ago, Vilna fell to a well-executed assault.  The 36th Grenadiers stormed the city and the 23rd FJ moved north to seize the airfield, which fell without a shot fired.  We'll soon advance eastward across the countryside, in the direction of that rural airfield lurking out in the fields of summer rye and barley.  Cmdr. Elfeater, the tattered 23rd FJ will regroup and receive reinforcements in preparation for another drop further beyond the front line.  NotAQuisling's Panzer Division is leading the advance, until I can bring up some recon units from the heartland.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
On the main front, the assault on Minsk has begun!  Our armored divisions crossed the Nieman tentatively, but met no immediate resistance as the Soviets appeared to be falling back towards the city defenses.  EuchreJack's 22nd Panzers encountered a Red infantry division and fell upon them with great ferocity.
But alas!  A Soviet armoured division of T-34's emerged out of the fog and struck hard against our unsuspecting Panzers!  The Red tanks dealt a hard defeat to the 19th Panzer Division (currently under AI command: any takers?), destroying about half of their tanks in the field.  Sheb's 16th Panzers are preparing for a counter-attack at first light, with air support from a squadron of Ju-87's.
The infantry divisions are taking a well-earned rest for re-equipping and reinforcing before resuming the advance.  The 1st FJ will prepare for another jump.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
For the 22nd's excellence in battlefield initiative, performing aggressive reconnaissance, a hero has been distinguished among the tankers.

July 18th, 1941

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The airfield is secured.  Our tanks rumble eastward.  There's a large river up ahead, though, outside of Polotsk.  Perhaps we can risk a crossing, otherwise we'll have to take the detour south, the much longer way around.  23rd FJ has reinforced and is preparing to board transports for their next jump.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Sheb's Panzers fought valiantly against the Bolshevik tankers.  At dawn, after the dive-bombers shattered the nerves of the communists, our 16th Division swept in amongst the smoke and fires to masterfully wreak havoc on the T-34s!  The 16th took about 25% losses, but the Russians were destroyed.  We've got crates of medals to hand out for this action.  In the picture the 16th has already received reinforcements from the rear.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Here's where the front stands now.  I spent nearly all our Prestige points (again) bringing up fresh troops and equipment.  We'll have to secure some results before we can do that again.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Meet our new armored reconnaissance vehicles!  Delta Foxtrot has the command.  We could save many lives by reconnoitering properly, rather than sending in the Panzers to damn the torpedoes.

A new assignment:
Canalan - Happy to have a Luftwaffe pilot at last.  You should take the 25th Bf109F wing.  These are the most cutting-edge Bf's we have currently, a step above the Bf109E's of the 5th and 12th wings.  Those guys are more experienced than your unit, but your own pilots have been learning fast.  They also are the most intact wing, currently, with about 80% fighting strength and we can't afford to patch them up right now, so make do with what you got and make us proud!

Permission to be dropped in behind a tank battle Herr Seamas, preferably one fitted with the new "tank shovers" fitted following the action in Greece...  8)

Great LP, enjoying it a lot so far, you made me buy the game. ;)

Do we still have that unit of Stug IIIs left? If yes, I'd like to take those, if not, I'd like the 19th Panzer division. What tanks do those guys have?

My God this game is awesome. I mean, when was the last game you played where you enjoyed the crap out of the first damned training scenario? Because this is such a game.

Indeed.  It's all made so crystal clear in the tutorials, one feels very confident taking the concepts into the battlefield.

Just to be official:
Mormota - 19th Panzer Division.  I think these are Panzer IV D's, but I'll have to check later.

If nothing else, my guys will be a lot cheaper to replenish than Panzer IVD's. Here's hoping.

July 20th, 1941

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Advancing east, Army group North spots a division of Red armor dug in on the riverbank.  Fools!  Back at Vilna airfield, the 23rd FJ loads up into planes and heads east for the drop behind the river that will secure Polotsk.  The city appears lightly defended at best and there's no AA surprises that we have reason to expect.  God speed, Elfeater.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
As our troops close in on Minsk, Fishbreath and his commies scamper off into the hills, leaving the city wide open to our advance.  Those cravens won't get far!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The situation in Bobruisk.  An I-16 squadron swept in and shot down a good number of our dive-bombers.  Damn!  We can't really afford to repair them right now.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
A dogfight erupts over Bobruisk!  Canolus and his valiant 25th squadron wreak havoc among the Russian I-16's.  With some assistance from the weary 5th Squadron, we send them to the ground.

July 22nd, 1941

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The 26th Panzer Div. made short work of those foolish Commie tankers, and sent them retreating.  The 23rd FJ is on the ground, unharried, and will move south to occupy these objectives, clearing the way for the rest of the grunts to cross over the river.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The fall of Minsk is imminent.  After today, the only remaining Soviet airfield will be at Smolensk, though it doesn't make much difference - we've shot down about all their fighters by now.  Delta Foxtrot sets out northeast on a recon sortie to scout out the Red positions around our next objectives: Vitebsk, Orsha, and Mogilev.  Pack a lunch, boys!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Bobruisk is ours, and next we shall take Mogilev.  Depending on what turns up over there, the 1st FJ will soon be jumping into action again.

July 24th, 1941

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Once the 23rd FJ hit the ground, they moved swiftly down the highway into Polotsk, seizing the city center without firing a shot.  On the southern edge of town, the regrouped Russian tanks stood dug in along the railway, commanding the river crossing from their embankments.  Simmura McCrea's 15cm cannons shelled the tanks for a while, and a squadron of Canolan's Bf109's swept in to do what damage they could.

Not ones to balk at a challenge, the 23rd then heroically charged into the warren of T-26's, with guns blazing.  Taking few casualties, they managed to dislodge the nerve-wracked tankers towards the south, where the wretches were caught on the riverbank again and destroyed by another fighter squadron.  Hurrah!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
For this action, Elfeater's unit was awarded with their first medal.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
On the main front, our reconnaissance shows little enemy resistance in the countryside.  We'll bypass this city shown here, since its not a main objective and we're racing the clock.  The 1st FJ has departed for the frontlines.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
On the southern front, Mogilev has been abandoned by the defenders and left to us.  We'll push on and join the main force approaching Smolensk, our chief objective.

July 26th, 1941

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
With the enemy tanks destroyed, the banks of Polotsk were safe for an old-fashioned crossing of the river.  As though to stall our imminent advance, however, a division of patriotic Soviet infantry emerged from their fortifications at an unimportant town to the east, and moved in to occupy the airfield before we could reach it.  They dont stand a chance, but I admire their resolve.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
On the south side of the river, the 26th Panzer Division under Generalleutnant NotAQuisling (while charging into the unknown)  encountered a division of entrenched BT-5 tanks in the woods outside of Vitebsk, along the main highway.  After sizing up the situation, he bravely ordered a full assault on the position, losing 30% of his fighting tanks and inflicting only about 10% losses on the Communists.  Considering the circumstances, he can't be blamed - the odds were not in his favor.  I insisted on the attack hoping for a miracle, relying upon our more experienced tankers and on our superior tanks to make up the difference.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
On the main front, the 19th Panzers engaged the mysterious Soviet rocket artillery, inflicting heavy damage on their sissy contraption.
By Vitebsk, realizing the hopeless position they'd soon be in, the Soviet tanks fell back into the city, despite their successful defense against the 26th the day before.  Unfortunately, that's their mistake, because the 3rd Wehrmacht can take advantage of their weaknesses more easily in urban conditions.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The 19th under Mormota's command received a medal for bravely confronting mysterious enemy battle technology, like laboratory gerbils probing the unknown for the greater good.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The 1st FJ under monkeyhead has flown past our final objective, Smolensk, before jumping out into the woods far north of town.  I would take no chances this time with AA or enemy fighters possibly lurking in the Fog.
