When my game starts and i begin digging underground, most times only 1 level below ground, i find nothing but "Other Stones" everywhere, and they mess with my rooms.



As you can see, this place is CRAWLING with gypsums, and i don't know what to do with them.
I've already tried selecting a place with aquifer so i could build a clean room and travel somewhere else to gather stone, that didn't worked.
I've already tried putting stones on bins, pots or chests but that didn't worked either.
I've already tried building enormous rooms to storage them, but i would only find more and more stones.
Is there any way i can get RID of them, or even discretly store them somewhere?

Make them into mugs/toys/instruments and trade them

or

Make them into rock pots and reduce your need for wood barrels

or

Build a big castle/bridge/megaproject out of them

or

Make a garbage dump zone (i, g), then designate stones for dumping with d, b, d

or

Hide the stones with d, h

I can't do most of the things you said because gypsuns are economic stones, i can't craft itens out of them, and i don't like the idea of "dumping" them, surely there's something useful i can do with them

but tell me more about this "hiding", i will not be able to see them, but will they interfere with item placement, pathing or prejudice me in one way or another?

Sorry, I thought you were aware of gypsum's economic uses.

From the wiki: "it can be processed at a kiln to make gypsum plaster powder," which is useful for health care or as a trade good.

If you prefer not to treat gypsum as an economic stone, you can toggle its status from the z, stones screen. Then you can use it for crafts or building.

Hiding makes it so that they don't appear on your screen, but otherwise they work normally. This means that they will block stockpile space, and dwarves will have to move them out of the way in order to build where they are, but that's usually not a problem.

Making a stone stockpile someplace out of the way, ideally in soil so it doesn't produce more stones to make, is probably the best way of handling them if you must put them someplace and don't want to use a quantum stockpile or atom-smash them. A quantum stockpile is better, though, as you can store a boundless amount of stone in a single tile rather than requiring hundreds or thousands of tiles to store stone; to make a quantum pile, make a garbage dump zone and mark things for dumping, and they'll be dragged to the zone and left there, forbidden, and you can then reclaim them for actual use. Atom smashing is similar, except you put the garbage dump where a raised drawbridge will lower, and occasionally lower then raise the drawbridge, annihilating anything beneath it.

You can also use the (z) Stocks > Stone menu to designate gypsum as non-economic, which would enable your stonecrafters and masons to use it for ordinary stone purposes.

some extra info: dumping stone in a garbage zone doesnt get rid of the stones. Its a bit hard to explain, but everything selected gets carried to the garbage zone (i), (g). If you do it right you can store hundreds of stones on a single square and get them back later.

And by doing it right, he means:

1. Create a 1 tile garbage zone (i), (g), place it somewhere near or even in your craftsdwarf or mason workshops.
2. Use the designate menu to mass designate an entire area to be dumped (d), (b), (d) (i believe, going from memory here)
3. Watch in amazement as your dwarves who have hauling enabled and who arent restricted to the wrong burrows or eating or sleeping or drinking or fighting or having a tantrum or taken by a strange mood or bleeding to death in the hospital from lack of legs or stuck behind a wall or caught in a bug or who arent simply not feeling up to the task for whatever reason.... jump to it and start dragging those damn stones away and stacking them all on that one tile.
4. Remove the garbage zone over that tile.
5. Reclaim the stack (its either forbidden, or its still designated as dump items, cant remember.)

Now your mason or what have you will have a huge stockpile of material right where he needs to work, for those times where he isnt restricted to the wrong burrows or eating or sleeping or drinking or fighting or having a tantrum or taken by a strange mood or bleeding to death in the hospital from lack of legs or stuck behind a wall or caught in a bug or who arent simply not feeling up to the task for whatever reason....
