"He was happy to have been able to give somone food
« on: May 15, 2008, 01:12:00 pm »

I was just looking at the profile of my fortresses trapper/animal trainer. And I noticed that he had the line "He was happy to have been able to give somone food recently."

Now, currently i'm just entering my second year without any migrants. I know exactly what every entity in my fort is doing, and none of the seven are injured. This message is very recent, and the only thing that has changed is that I have captured and trained a pair of Rhesus.

Bug?

Maybe he fed an animal?

To train animals, dwarves fetch food for them. Probably came from training the monkeys.

Hmm.
Maybe a dwarf got hungry while sparring, then got a brown "wound" somewhere non-vital, and a "rest" task?
I imagine that might cause a "give food" task: He's "resting", "hungry", hey let's feed him (never mind he'll be fine in a day or two).

He did, a Rhesus.

Still, it seems slightly counter-intuitive that training animals would give happy/sad thoughts equivilent to bringing a person food.

Sounds like a useful way to cheer up a depressed dwarf: Make them train animals.

Okay, not useful as such, but still.

Monkey: ???
Urist McDwarf: A MONKEY! The world is right again! I'll name you johnny, and I'll feed you, and dress you and hug you...

I guess feeding the animal must've done it.
Dwarves get unhappy thoughts from having to feed injured dwarves .. maybe he liked the aimal he got to feed?   :)

If the happy thought came from "giving SOMEONE food", then I doubt the Rhesus monkey was the cause.
Somehow I cannot see Toady One being so deranged as to identify Rhesus monkeys with dwarfs. It's the beard, dude.
much more probable he fed someone who was resting shortly with a minor wound sustained from the same Rhesus monkeys before they were caught

Yeah, it was doing the thought for the taming job.  I got rid of that for next time, but the animal will still receive a "received food" thought, if it is in fact capable of holding thoughts (probably only comes up in mods).
