What do your dwarves sing?
« on: December 08, 2011, 01:40:54 am »

You have one week to post the most Dwarf-Fortress-appropriate song lyrics you can recall.
"Diggy Diggy Hole" is the only one off-limits, as it's too damn obvious.

We Climb Molten Rock
Sweating Bleeding We Can't Stop
Dream Demons Whisper Spells
To Punish The Dwellers In Earthly Hell

Starved Still We Reach The Top
Close Our Eyes Look Toward The Gods
Summon Fire From The Earth
Incite The Flames We Fear Not DEATH

Magma Heats
We Fear Not DEATH
Darkened Hills
We Fear Not DEATH
Molten Rock
We Fear Not DEATH
Volcanic Kills
We Fear Not DEATH

Mantle Crust Ignites
Bleeding Heated Birth
Will We Die Tonight?
Punished By The Earth

Highland Fires
Run For Shelter
Incantaions
Help No Better
Frozen Human
While They're Fleeing
Horrid Sculpture
Forever Screaming

Mantle Crust Ignite
Bleeding Heated Birth
Will We Do Tonight?
Punished By The Earth

Come And Take Us
Me Mock Your Anger
We Laugh At Your Power
We Fear Not DEATH
We Fear Not DEATH

We Challenge Your Furry
We'll Dive In To Lava
And Burn like We're Cinders
We Fear Not DEATH
We Fear Not DEATH

"Hole In The Ground" by Bernard Cribbins

There I was, a-digging this hole
Hole in the ground, so big and sort of round it was
And there was I, digging it deep
It was flat at at the bottom and the sides were steep
When along comes this bloke in a bowler which he lifted and scratched his head
Well he looked down the hole, poor demented soul and he said

Do you mind if I make a suggestion?

Don’t dig there, dig it elsewhere
Your digging it round and it ought to be square
The shape of it’s wrong, it’s much much too long
And you can’t put hole where a hole don’t belong

I ask, what a liberty eh?
Nearly bashed him right in the bowler

Well there was I, stood in me hole
Shovelling earth for all that I was worth I was
And there was him, standing up there
So grand and official with his nose in the air
So I gave him a look sort of sideways and I leaned on me shovel and sighed
Well I lit me a fag and having took a drag I replied

I just couldn’t bear, to dig it elsewhere
I’m digging it round cos I don’t want it square
And if you disagree it doesn’t bother me
That’s the place where the holes gonna be

Well there we were, discussing this hole
Hole in the groud so big and sort of round it was
It’s not there now, the ground’s all flat
And beneath it is the bloke in the bowler hat
    And that’s that

Oh god no did you just...

Anyway, generally the cheesy "Total slaughter" song from Trigun. Terrible lyrics, and an awful tune, but I can't help but crack up or start singing it in some situations. Works best when a legendary marksdwarf is shooting a goblin horde's unarmored bits since those are usually non-vital.

Forgotten Beasts seem to be akin to Toady playing Dwarven Roulette with your fortress, as they can be anything from harmless giant worms made of mud to necrotic-gas spewing nigh-invunerable iron hydras of doom.

I listen to lots of different music, from many different cultures and eras, and although I find there are some pieces of music better suited for specific situations, nothing seems to capture the spirit of Dwarf Fortress quite as well as that song.

Lemundy that song you wrote down under spoiler is stupid half the things the dwarfs do is for some god or other, mostly me but its not like dorfs are atheist.
They carve statues and engrave walls in images of gods of cheese for crud sake.
