A day after the arena fight and the announcement, the Nova household received a message that archon will arrive for an offical and important discussion regarding both the explored territory and continued developments in Nova lands. Archon Luthias was eager to discuss many things both with the matriarch and her consort.

((@Dwarmin: the House's overall income should rise stratopherically depending on how the industrialization goes))

Meet with the Triumvirate Officers. Wear nonornamental regalia, rather than the usual power armor, as in to pass an amicable image; switch back to the armor as soon as the meeting is done with.

Back in his office, Roim was waiting for his first appointment, with Trent. After a few minutes, the young man appeared, escorted by two guards. The guards stayed outside the office's door, leaving Trent and Roim alone in the large office.

Sit down young man. Want a drink? No? Too bad. Well, I'll fix myself one anyway. Roim turns around, and continue speaking while making a complex cocktail.
You must wonder why I summoned you. Well, don't worry, I don't want to kill you, or even to boot you out of Delta 17. I have many enemies, and you're not the more dangerous. At this point I should add that if I understand why you'd want to kill me, I have no ill feeling against you, no more than I had against your father. Those are the rules you see: if someone revolt, you have to make an exemple out of him, his family and his realm. Remember the Epics of Jane Kiskan, that shepherd that created the largest empire of the time. No quarter for rebels.

But I digress. What I need today is your technical skills. I know you've sent a request for lands and men to pursue your research. You won't get them. You know enough about in-House politics to know that no one would give away power willingly to a relative.

However, you must have heard that rumor about a Shipyard the Church found? Surely, this would be the best place for you to build starships. Well, here is the deal: I've seen that system you created in the Arena, so that we could hear the din of battle from our loge. I want you to improve it so we could transmit informations from the new continent back to Delta 17 and the rest of the realms. If you succeed, you'll come with me, and get full use of the Shipyard's facilities and all the men you'll need. And to make this invention works, you'll get the authorization to use our artifacts, as well as the use of the Royal Laboratories.

Do we have a deal?

On a side Note facilities in Yellow in the Infrastructure Tab are belonging to the Church.

Tithes and Relics

Tithe is paid to the Church. For Example Basic Faith Structures gain you 1 Credit per Population. However one of you Nobles could decide to build something bigger except for a Simple Shrine, a Church for Example.
Except of 1 Credit per population point, the tithe would rise to 3 Credits per population. But what would a Noble of Nova gain from it? Well 10 % of course. Of the for example 100 Credits Tithe usually 75 go to the Church and 25 to the Archon. However if a Noble builds bigger Faith Structures people will pilgrimage instead to those. Now however 90 Credits go to the Church and merely 10% to the Noble...the Archon sees no money...you can even increase your Tithe Skim as Nobleman but that will have it's own complications altogether.

But at some point you have build a Cathedral and can't go bigger...what now? Well, The Universe is filled with Relics of Church Personalities. The used handkerchief of some 300year dead high Archon suddenly is worth turning a planet to cinders....but of course nobody would do THAT, would he?

While the Nova were expecting the delegation from the Archon, they weren't expecting the amount of noise and charged particles that hit Delta 17 with the arrival of the Frigate "Morning Star".

Bearing the symbols of the Church and personal heraldry of Luthias, the imperial warship was an omnious sight to behold, as it moved above the palace and the city. 2 kilometers long and 300 meters wide, hovering in air above with its engines glowing in blue and discharging the particles of the ion engines, to the common folk of Nova lands it truly must have been an awesome thing to behold.
The arrival was at dusk, so the glow of the ship and engines was so much more visible. Without any warning, giant pillars of light beamed down onto the city; the ship engaged its giant searchlights, moving them around the landing zone and illuminating the path for the incoming shuttles.

Hailing frequencies were open to inform of arrival and several shuttles were deployed. Carrying the distingushed passanger and his havily armed bodyguard, Luthias had every intention of showing the Nova house that Church is not to be ignored or swept under the rug while they play their game of royalty. Just as the ship moved the searchlights illuminating the city, so he intended to enlighten Roim and Averys about the shape of things to come.

With much hurry and bowing, with servants and bodyguards crowding the landing platform and lining up along the path to the palace, Archon was ushered into throne room, where he expected an audience to occur.

The rumble of the ship's engine, and the sudden, blinding light awoke Roim and Avery. Rushing into his ceremonial clothes, Roim hurried into the Throne room, arriving mere moment before Luthias, while Avery was still busy settling into her expensive but impractical clothes.

Sitting on his throne next to Avery's empty one, Roim watched the Archon's guards forming a double line outside the Throne Room, their power armor shining in the last rays of the sun. Luthias walked to the Throne and bowed his head. More than a nod, but less than a bow. He didn't want to be impolit, but wouldn't concede superiority to Roim.

After nodding to acknowledge the Archon's salute, Roim began to speak in a deep, low voice.I do not think it is proper for a state visitor land without letting his host time to prepare, Archon Luthias. I'm afraid you have interrupted the Matriarch's sleep. But it shall not be said that the House of Nova has been inhospitable to the Pancreator's servant, and thus you are welcome within our walls. What is it that you wish to discuss?

....while Avery was still busy settling into her expensive but impractical clothes....[/color]

@Sheb: Uh, please do not play my character for me, Sheb. I'll allow it this time because it takes longer for Avery's to get 'proper' than Roim, and you might have thought I couldn't respond.

Otherwise, please do not ascribe actions to me unless I approve them?

----

Averys was laying her head on Roims chest, arms around his neck-she had just fallen asleep, and was having a nice dream in which her husband was taking her for a ride on a black horse to a roaring battlefield, when there a blinding light and hungry rumble from outside...she felt Roim slip her grip, and sighed, woken from reverie and dream.

"...blast. And I was having such a nice dream...I suppose that's the Archon. He's the only one who could afford to bring a ship here to try and impress us."

She stretched and yawned.

"Go on ahead, love. I'll be out in a moment. I've got to freshen up."

Maybe Kings could rush out to meet courtiers from bed without showering first, but Avery's had a certain image to uphold. She supposed she should put on some clothes as well, currently being sans them.

((its not dawn, but dusk unless everyone goes to bed at 8pm. There is no reason for them to be complaing about breakfast or sleep either :P))

"My arrival here, as you might suspect, is linked to the recent discoveries that Ecclesia Exploratoris just achieved. And the fact that I would like to settle and finalise several arrangments between Nova House and the Arch-Diocese of the Soma system... "

I wonder how long before this simpleton catches on that i'm not Garth's personal scribe any more but his spiritual leader?

First of all, I would like to congratulate you on the progress that is being carried out in the Nova lands. but there are several worrying developments that I must address. This is for later however.
for now I would like to discuss the issue of tithe. As far as I can tell, while every faithful on this world has been donating for the maintenance of the Church and the services it dispenses, the nobility, among them House Nova are currently absent from the arrangement. Now, as crude as this may sound, but I must request that House Nova begins to pay its tithe. and I don't merely mean allow for the taxation of the populace, but a tithe direclty from the treasury in the name of Nova. The customary tenth of your income is requested for the maintenance of all temples, chapes and schools that are in your lands, but under my care.

The issue of warrior-priests currently under Avery's orders is to be adressed too. While the effort is apprecieated, I think the time has come for the Church to take over all ecclesiastical duties in your lands and for these priests to come under my administration. After all, we want to avoid suspicions of heresy, don't we?

finally, the worrying development. I've received reports form my missionaries in the Reach that the church schools are being "secularised". Do you think that while the xenos are roaming free on this world, the bandits are uncheked and the people still in fear for their tommorow its wise to deprive them of their spiritual life? As you are undoubtedly familiar, salvation can come only from communion with Church, not by rejecting its tenants. As far as I'm aware, the burden of educating and funding that education rests with my Office, and the violation of the schools is encroachment on the competences of said office.

Luthias smiled weakly.
Now, I'm merely looking after your spiritual well-being. You are under my care after all, and I would not be doing my job well if I did not try to steer you clear of any heresy that may lay ahead of you. In light of this, I would be happy to inform you that you have the privilege of having me as the offically nominated confessor for the House Nova. All spirtiual, theological and ecclesiastical issues of your house should come to me, so that I may work in cooperation with you

((Dwarmin, this is about 20 credits a turn that we are looking at; it seems like a worthwhile investment and the church proper, not the Archon, is enough of an abstract entity at this stage that funding them shouldn't trouble the House. I am, of course, refering to advanced faith structures, not the Archon's tithe... You might want to consult Azthor about the later, he may have some enlightening things to say on the matter. Scratch that, just call him to the meeting, he hasn't started talking with the Triumvirate Officers just yet, after all))

Raise temples in both the Core regions and the Reaches.

"The young brat is gaining in assurance. One could mistake him for the Patriarch himself rather than the Archon of a backward planet, if one were to judge by the arrogance in his voice. Still, his move is far from stupid. He know I can't afford to be seen opposing the Church, and he makes the most out of it." Thought Roim while listening to Luthias' demands. Slowly, a plan while emerging in his mind.

First of all, I am glad to have such an holy man as my confessor. While I never had any heretic thought, Pancreator forbid, be sure I'll turn to you if that was to be the case.

Now, I must say that I am surprised by your demand, Archon Luthias. While we are all thankful to Our Mother the Church for safeguarding our souls, we do not see the need to change the custom. For time immemorial, tithe had been paid by the parishioners to maintain their local churches as well as to finance the activities of Holy men such as yourself. Even now, the tithe paid every month by our folks is more than enough to maintain all the Holy places across the realm, and to provide you with a sizeable chunk of your income. And just as we do not levy taxes on your priest to pay for the soldiers that protect their body, it has been custom for the Kings and Lords of this planet not to pay the tithe for the Church that protect our souls.

However, I understand your concern about heresy, and the need to make sure only the purest Orthodoxy shape our people's believe. As such, I'll order than a tenth of our income be set apart for the erection of glorious place of worships all across our land. I am sure that your hierarchy will be pleased by that proof of your efficient management of the spiritual well-being of Si'kar, as well as the sudden increase in tithe and revenue those temples will bring to the church.

Set aside 10% of our incomes to build temples and churches all over the land.

The issue of the Warrior-Priests is a touchy one. Those men have sworn an oath of loyalty to Avery, and wouldn't dream of breaking it. However, I agree that we cannot let another interpretation of the Faith develop. While we provide for their training and equipment, so as to guarantee they'll interact as efficiently as possible with the other armed forces of the realm, we will erect a seminar here in Delta 17, where they'll receive the best spiritual education, the better to serve the Pancreator. We hope you'll agree to provide your best teachers, for those men are to be the spearhead of the faith.

A seminar will be built in Delta 17, to train the warrior-priest. Make sure the construction is delayed a couple of time for no apparent reason, and that the final building is quite small.

As for the school, I am afraid I didn't know about this secularization. Those affairs are managed by a relative. I however understand your concern and will make sure you can meet him before flying away. Now, if you please, I'd like to talk about those new lands you discovered. You must know that the news was greeted with great joy by the people of House Nova, and that many already signed to join our armies in the event of a crusade. So, tell me more. Where exactly are those lands, and what forces would we need for a total pacification and conversion of this new continent?

So, you are evading me, eh? Keep on sticking your fingers in ecclesiastical affairs and I will be the first one to break your fingers...

Its great to hear that piety is not forgotten. I must remind you though that only Church holds the right to control and ordain ministers and that Averys will be urged to either hand these priests over or disband them immediately. The worst times have passed and their presence is not needed here but elswhere. Averys is a faithful daughter of the Church, but she has temporal arrangments to take care of, while I oversee the spiritual well-being of the entire system. I cannot let such things be. Please understand that I act on behalf not of myself but mankind as a whole.

Luthias eased and smiled again.
I see that you are eager to talk of these new developments. Its true that new territories have been explored, but I'm afraid that any actions to be taken there will have to be delayed until I tend to the faithful in the known parts of this world. Rest reassured, that I will remember about House Nova when the time for crusade comes.
I've yet to receive news from the other houses and nobles. I have much work in tending to their affairs as well as ensuring that no stray thoughts are born while your lands are developing.
