Roim... Annoying worm. Aeverys was the queen, but she left a worm behind to rule. How could she be so short-sighted?

Roim was frantic and desperate in moves. With speed know only to those in complete panic, he penned one letter to Luthias after another, explaining, sucking up and cajoling, mixing it all with sarcasm unheard of so far from him.

first the debacle with azthor, now he is tearing up previous arrangements with his house... nova were worthless under the rule of this man. They openly declare themsleves against Si'kar diocese and disregard all and any agreements. That was enough.

Spoiler: Letter to Azthor (click to show/hide)

Vengeance

Jurislav stopped pacing. He sunk into his seat and gestured for both Tavius and Aeverys to sit.

"You know that the Situation here is unsalvagable. We will loose Lightbringer-Fortress and Lamp. While most important officials have been evacuated i will stay and take the Redeemer Guard with me to join Hood and his Third Repentant and try to rescue the situation. I will not abandon Vengeance not after so many years, not after so many lifes."

he turned around and looked at the two.

"Assassin. You have killed an Inquisitorial Agent. There is no way i can declare you "Purgatus" by specific Order of Inquisitor Joras. Moreso the Ecclesia Iudicatores has issued an order that all Remaining Repentant Regiments in the Hive of Lamp are to defend the city and surrounding Holy Sites. That includes you. All i can do, is to send your Regiment and you to defend the Chapel of Saint Anzhelica."

[4] You Remember that the Chapel was 5 miles south of the Hive. While the Mutant Coalition would arrive from the North. Who would send a Regiment to defend that?

Avery's wondered what was happening, but was not one to question fate.

Just before Trent left the room he stopped and replied,

"Nothing other then I gave you the tools with which to handle Roim as you see fit, my actions may have been rash and foolish in your and Roim's views, but did I not gather enough charges by which to have Roim killed for treason? For no you can use it as you see fit, I see it as a way to postpone an inevitable war, if we do not get Averys back soon then even my plans will have been fruitless before the Fool King."

"Ah, and I'd like to request if you have any spare artifacts from before the Fall or scriptures pertaining to Pre-Fall industrial details that they be sent to the lab. Also if you have any samples of Xeno DNA please have those brought as well. I have a few alleys of research to explore."

With that Trent nodded towards the Archon, gave his farewells and left to his lab.

Research:
Research into Advanced Mining Technologies, aim to make mines cheaper, and more effective to use. (Main Focus)
Research into the Xeno Genome, and get a better understanding of its structure. (Secondary Focus)
Research alternate sources of power, focus on cheap, and easy sources for now. (Secondary Focus)

((Ok, back from my job and i see some things have gotten...awry. Uhm Azthor and Ardas, maybe i oversaw something but could you please send me a pm over such agreements? And generally i would like to have a copy of any secret agreements, secret meetings and so on, so that i am prepared for such moves. XP anyway i just saw that the post of Jurisalv must have seem confusing, as i didn't read over it a second time and somehow half the post is missing...:/
FakeEdit: Ardas both ships used their Laser Bombardement capabilities already. I figure you don't want them to use the other Weapons?))

Tavius's Regiment:

"Aeterna" Repentia Regiment (Bloodied, Repentants, Half-Automatic Weapons, Flak Armour, Rebreathers)

Aevery's Regiment:

Redeemer Guard (Bloodied, Repentants, Imperial Weaponry, Power-Armour,Environmental Systems)

Jurislav saw Aeverys already turning to the door.

"What are you doing my dear? I wasn't finished. As i won't depart the planet there is one seat in the last shuttle open. Therefore i can offer you and your Child to leave the planet. Or you stay and fight with me  and help me regain Vengeance from the Mutants and save the surviving Repentant Regiments. In any case your child will be brought onto the transport and will leave towards Si'Kar."

This is an interesting Opportunity. Leaving the planet will allow you to go back to Novan Lands and resume rule. However your relations will stay damaged with the Church for the time being. If you decide to stay you can help Taricus and he will have an easier time surviving. Your Church relations will go up quite a bit as you helped turn around the situation. The downside is staying longer on the planet and leaving your kid to Church officials...(they will return it to Si'kar anyway but in case a bad random event roll happens you might find that you can't help it for a while.)

"Averys, with all due respect Nova needs you more. And I won't have you suffer for my own mistakes. Go back to Si'Kar and fix whatever shit that has happened to nova while you were away, I can handle things here.

Jurislav, take my regiment and deploy them elsewhere, generally somewhere they'll be useful, I'll hold the shrine by myself. All a regiment would do is slow me down and reveal me."

Avery's thought. Duty and love...she had never really had to make many choices like this before. It was easier, before...what if she died here? Her child would never know her name...

Then again, placing her child on a shuttle-unarmed and defenseless against a horde of schemers...many of whom no doubt had little mercy to spare for a young child.

She turned to Tavius. Would she abandon me as well? And the men and the cause? She had not been idle-Avery's had come to know the warriors of this planet, had dined with them, sparred and laughed.

Her emotions were at war.

"...I cannot abandon my duty."

Tavius's words struck true.

"But I also have a greater duty to Nova, and my little Kathrica...I will go home. Forgive my cowardice, Archon." she said, voice deep with regret.

She turned to Taivus "...And, you had better stay alive until I can get you home, that's an order." She said, with a slight smile.

Trent held his head in his hands as he sat at his desk, piles of notes and data slates scattered about the room, all that remained of the Research Lab and the Church Scientists, all this work and such a high cost for so little. Slightly infuriated Trent flung the datapad in front of him across the room, it contained mainly information on geographic features that would help point towards mineral rich areas, as it hit the wall the thing shattered leaving bits of wiring, glass, and such scattered about on the floor.

Standing up he rushes out of the room and slams the door behind him as he goes, the sound of something heavy falling onto the floor catches his ear, but he ignores it as he heads for the Archon's office on-board. As he grew close he was stopped by a servant, the entrance to the office being around the corner Trent wasn't sure if he was inside or not. Trent speaks up, his voice being a tad higher then he meant it to be as he says,

"Tell the Archon I'm here to see him on recent matters involving the lab, and several other subjects."

With that he fell silent waiting for the man to bring him in, or for his request to be denied.

Servant only nodded and let Trent in. apparently Archon heared him and buzzed the servant to let him in.

Luthias was still at his desk, seemingly unmoved from the last meeting.

"Yes Trent? What is it?"

Trent sat down in a chair and clasped his head in his head for a few moments, he had headaches daily nowadays, the sheer stress of working on one's own was pretty good at causing such things. Leaning back for a second he spoke up.

"I have a confession to make to you, I've been looking for a time to tell this to you so it wouldn't cause trouble, and now that I have a way to repent if need be I shall just come straight out and say it."

Sitting forward Trent had a serious look in his eye as he continued.

"I have had Xenos under my command for some time, just before Averys was taken I bought them from the arenas in House Nova territory and lied to them in order to get their trusts as soldiers. I told them that I would grant them freedom to their family and them, and even rights equal to that of humans if they did well in battle, of course this was a lie I would never risk Avery's life by such foolishness though I'm sure Roim would take these acts to be true if he found out."

"Well anyway, in my recent land grab some of them were captured and they are sure to have discovered by now what I had promised them to get loyalty and determination to fight from them. If Roim uses this to act on the Church or me, or if you see these as crimes to the Church then I have a request of you."

"To prevent any backlash I request Penance Legions to be formed from the criminals on this world, and for me to lead them in a Crusade against the Xenos on this world."

Trent knew this very well kill him, but he could not risk harming the Church's relation with House Nova, nor could he trouble Averys any more then he already had. He had to make sure the peace was kept or else all he fought for to this point would crumble, even this outrageous request was something necessary and he knew it.

He just hoped the Archon saw it the same way, or Trent may well lose his head this day.

Vengeance

Morning on Vengeance. A sight to behold. When Lightgiver slowly crawls over the horizon and drenches everything in a sickening, depressing, brown hue.

Today was different. In its endless drift around Lightgiver, Vengeance has reached a thinner point of the Dustcloud now drenching the planet orange as the Sun peeked over the horizon. Superstitious people could claim this as a sign but alas the difference was noted by few. Lamp was in Chaos. Frantic Citizens of the Small Hive were surging towards the small Space Port where the Last Shuttles were departing towards the promise of security that the Orthodoxy Fleet held.

Tens of thousands of people were pressing for a place in the Shuttle barely held under control by the "Aeterna"-Regiment. Frantic screams, wails and growled orders mingled to the cacophony of the shuttle thrusters and the propaganda casters blearing useless orders at the Citizens to behave this or that way. Aeverys and the remaining Church officials however were literally above such chaos, their seats in the upper places of the Landers.

As the Lander finally ascended, overloaded with human cargo, the last semblance of Order broke down and Civilians broke through the Repentant line. Farantically they tried to get aboard the neighbouring lander and as it rose people clambered upon the closing cargo hatch. from Aeverys Seat she could see as figures lost grip and fell to their deaths others crushed between the Massive Landing Ramps. Below the Repentants were opening fire into the frantic masses, before finally a loud commanding voice, that of Jurislav, thundered from the Propaganda Casters and ordered people to evacuate via the East Gate.

As the Lander it slowly sickers into you that Jurislav was tryingto evacuate the remaining Population. Madness. Lamp, even after evacuating as much of its population as possible, contained still several ten thousand people. Taking the Repentant Regiments into account, Jurislav had four Regiments at his disposal to guide such a mass of people over five hundred miles towards Hood and the Third Army. The Mutants Horde would quickly gain on them and crush them. What the Saint tried to do was Suicide...

As you look one last time out of the window you could see a massive black cloud about twenty miles from Lamp. If their vanguard was fast they could harry the Refugee horde even tomorrow....

Tavius

From the Chapel you have a good look upon lamp. Upon the seething frantic masses. Upon the Chaos in the streets. By now all Social Order would have broken down and looting would have begun, even in the face of the incoming Mutant Threat. In the Upper Parts of the Hive you see laser fire. Church officials and their retainers deciding to die as martyrs. A useless gesture. Meanwhile on the East side of the Hive another seething mass of people had gathered. Propably the remaining cityfolk trying to escape to Hoods Approaching Third. Suicide. the Mutant Horde would harry them all the way to him and bleed them out.

The Chapel is a sturdy structure, more of a bunker than a real Chapel. it can only be reached via a steep winding path. Jurislav had refused to let you go alone and had send with you a squad of ten fellow Repentants and a Prior. Even as you stare out unto the Hive he takes a place next to you.

"Beautiful view to see the end of a man's achievement. May the One bless Jurislav. For even in his last days he tries to do the right thing, although he will die as a martyr..."

The Prior is a gaunt man, his face hollow from a life of eternal strife, dusk and asketicism. His Duskmantle armour makes it even in the orange glow hard to differentiate him from the surrounding landscape. He turns around and starts barking Orders to the Other Repentants who are in full preparation and already building barricades at the Chapel. A futile task.

Tavius' voice was unnervingly calm, considering the fate that was likely to happen to all of the people here.

"Prior, you and your men hold the line here, I'm going to head off forward on my own and attempt to take out the incoming enemy force's command elements. I'll return if I'm successful. I'd suggest finding some boulders to roll down the path at the mutants, should stop them from advancing if I fail."

Luthias was rather displeased with the man's style and way of behaving. It was clear that Trent was bursting with ambition, but could not temper himself.

"Backlash? You foolish man, you will get no troops or resources until VAIMIR is complete. I want my ships space worthy and I expect you to deliver."

Archon looked rather annoyed.

"You are clever, but not clever enough. You exhausted your options when you tried to force Roim's hand and estasblish yourself. Now you have to pay the price for that mistake. Your penance form now on is to turn VASIMIR blueprints into reality. Now get out."

Averys held Kathrica close as the lander rose out of the murky atmosphere into the cold expanse of space-but her mind was only half on the child-who slept blissfully in her mothers arms, unaware, uncaring, safe.

She promised to return one day. She vowed to herself, that she would cleanse this place-and erect a great memorial over the ashes. Those who had died here would not be forgotten. They would not go unavenged.

Kathrica shifted in her arms, and Averys kissed her on the brow, whispering.

"...Sleep now, my Child. Sleep and dream of all that is to come." And she would-of the great oceans and shining sun of their home world, which they soon return to.

Avery's fell asleep eventually, as well-but she dreamed of Fire.

Aeverys

Fire. Whole fleets burning in the Orbit. Vengeance. Then screams. Screams of a baby. Not in anguish but longing for the care of it's mother. They get more urgent, more drawn.

A shockwave hits the ship and nearly throws you out of your seat next to the craddle of your screaming daughter. As you rise shakily your ears are assaulted by the duet of baby screams and alarm sirens. Before you can figure out what the hell is going on and calm your little child the lights go out. The room is bathed in faint dark orange light coming from the small window, while the screams of Kathrica intensify even more. in an effort to calm Kathrica you take her on your arm and while slowly rocking her you move to look outside.

the Orbit of Vengeance has turned into a scene you have up to now only seen on old pictures. The seen of a space battle. The Church Fleet is aflame, even as you look a torpedo hits the neighbouring  Shield of Redemption and small figures are thrown out into the deadly vacuum. A moment later your ship vibrates from the shockwave. Still uncomprehending on what the hell is going on, the emergency lights suddenly spring back on and the room is bathed in red light. the Speakers activate and a Choir reciting Verses can be heard. Then they break off replaced by an automated voice.

All passengers please report to the inner parts of the ship. Please remain calm. Everything is under control.

End of message. The Choir returns. A knock on the door. a muffled voice.

Lady Aeverys? Are you ok? I am here to take you to a safer place.
