Hello and welcome! This is the thread for something I've been planning for some time: an IRC rpg game using
this setting and
this system.
Keep in mind, the intent here is for everyone to enjoy themselves. If we aren't having fun, then something's wrong. That said, I do have a few basic requirements to keep annoying behavior and players to a minimum. They can be found below in amongst all the other stuff about the game.
Game master ~ Me.
Game tone ~ Lightly humorous and adventurous, I hope.
Basic overview of the setting ~ The world of Stanley G. Weinbaum's 1930s science fiction. There are no computers, no cyberpunk, no enormously high-tech elements - just rockets and strange worlds/aliens. No interstellar travel.
Recurring sessions time and date ~ One each on every Sunday and Monday, starting at 6:00 Pacific time and going on for anywhere from half an hour to two hours, depending on the preferences and schedule restraints of the players and the GM. This is changeable if no one can come then.
Estimated number of sessions ~ From three to ten, broadly speaking, and depending on how much fun we all have.
Adventure used ~ One I cooked up. I have enough outline for (I think) one session, and I have a good general idea of where it all might go, but of course all that can be disrupted at any time by the players.
Number of players wanted ~ Anywhere from three to five, I think.
Character generation and concepts restrictions ~ All characters must fit in the setting, and they should have some background that allows them to have been hired with the League to fly a patrol ship and help keep order in the outer systems. This basically means that you've been trained as a pilot/engineer/navigator/etc., or that you have some special project or other reason to be on a League ship (scientist making an autopilot/studying something at some planet of the solar system, bigwig, etc.) Everything's subject to GM look-over and approval but everyone should have a very broad range of options and I'll allow anything that seems plausible and balanced.
Player requirements ~ I expect you to have a basic sense of roleplaying, nothing fancy just an idea of how your character might act in the game world. Also you should spell and punctuate and capitalize your post here correctly - if you can't put that small amount of effort forth then go somewhere else, would you?
Required reading ~ Skim the worldbook linked above; read one or two of the stories that are also available from the setting link. You don't have to memorize anything, just get a good sense of the universe. Also please familiarize yourself with the internal workings of the Forgotten Futures rules.
Mythic GME ~ A set of tables and directions I will use to help me generate adventure on the fly if need be. It allows me to ask yes/no questions and generate random events.
To get in, post yourself interested below and make a character sheet up - once it's done post that. I'll PM you with whether you were accepted or not, and anything I want you to change or reconsider. There are five slots, max.
I'm also looking around for a good IRC network to use - I think EsperNet. Any other suggestions?
P.S. No session this Monday.
