So what do you want to do with the advanced tools?

Fire all weapons, use no missiles.Scan the ship for survivors.

Scans of the ship reveal that lifesupport is non functional and spacesuits only have about a days worth of air.
This ship has been here a few days at least so survivors are unlikely.

You load chunks of metal into the railguns and line the ship up to fire.
As always the guns rattle the entire ship as the projectiles exit the barrels of guns.
A lump of metal with the words FUS RO DAH painted on it narrowly misses a drone as it shots past.
The large projectiles are hard to hit small mobile targets with so instead the gunnery crew starts loading loose scrap.
The second shot fires like shotgun and the projectiles spread out in a small cloud which sails through the drone formation at high speed.
Twisting and dodging expertly the drones try to avoid the hail of high peed metal but six of them are perferated and explode.
You fire again this time only taking out two.
The others pick up speed as they enter weapons range.
Your point defences consistantly fail to find their mark as the drones find weak points in your hull and put several small holes in it.
Seven drones remain.

Yes you can tether a drone with ease.
But you don't know how it's going to react.
These are both mines and gun drones if you remember so there's a very good chance it might detonate when you tether it.

The drones swarm around the Firestar making it nearly impossible to aim the main guns at them.
Sill you manage to snap a shot off spraying scrap metal painted with the words FUS RO DAH from your guns which takes out another drone.
Your point defense again fail to hit but your cannons wind up and unleash upon the drones blowing away three of them.
The last drones fire ineffectualy at the ship before speeding up and moving in to ram.

You grab one of the drones with a Tether anchor.
It's thrusters start firing wildly and uncontroled as the drone tries to pull itself free.
Your point defense guns are finaly recalibrated and score hits on the last two drones, melting down both.

Is the drone still alive? If so, try to dismantle if possible. Anyway, send out the crawler bot. Scan the surrounding debris for usefull stuff, like a flak turret.
(Flak drone MKII) And begin preparations for reclaiming the cargo ship.

Yeah. If there are no more drones lets board the ship and take a look around.

It's still alive but it's jerking around like a fish caught on a hook which means no one can get close to it.
Your other option is to reel it in and bring a live explosive device onboard.
Still the crew say if there is a way to imoblise it so they can work on it in space their certain they can disarm and disassemble it without harm, maybe even finding out who turned these things on in the process.

The Crawler bot is dispatched and begins dutifuly patching holes, it'll take about six hours to fix the hull.

A quick search of the surrounding scrapfield finds little of value, there's not even much left of the drones.
At least there's plenty of scrapmetal for the railguns.

Meanwhile some crewmembers are gathering to search the cargo vessel, they already have a selection of small arms and tools.
How many do you want to send across and is there anything in particular you want them to bring with them?

Well, since were going to stay here for a while(searching the cargo vessel and such) we can just wait until it runs out of fuel. Can we do a decent scan of the drone now that we now were it is. Also continue looking for interresting stuff.

The scan of the drone reveals little more than you already know.
It's old and worn with no signs of physical tampering.
Intresstingly though it seems to have taken a percisely aimed hit to it's long range comunications array the hit itself appears to be from another one of the drone's gattling guns.

Futher searches of the nearby scrap turns up nothing more than junk, well junk and a damaged shuttle engine.
With a bit of effort and a fuel tank you could get it running again.

Five crew members equiped with small arms and tools shuttle across to the cargo vessel.
Progress through it's confines is slow, many bulkheads have sealed in a futile effort to keep the air in.
Cutting through, bybassing and going around them is bogging thesearch team down.
They report that they've found the med bay and dispite minor damage most of the equipment and medical supplies are intact. (the Firestar's med bay currently is completely empty of equipment and supplies)
They also report that they've found three of the former crewmen of the cargo vessel.

Meanwhile the drone still struggles agaisnt the tether.

I think they're dead. Anyway,Scan the scrapfield of infinitif goodies, continue waiting for the drone to run out of fuel, and see if the frighter's still flyable and/or dockable.

Inspect the crewmen.
Two of the crewmen have severe burns and scruffy overalls while the third is wearing a pristine lab coat.
All of them died from asphyxiation.

Scanning the scrapfield of infinite goodies nets you an antique couch, a damaged cargo loader (basicly a fancy forklift) and a case of smoke grenades.
As to if the cargo ship's flyable, you'll have to wait untill the search team reaches the bridge to find out.
But it's docking ports clearly work and accept remote docking requests.
The search team pushes on heading deeper into the ship where they find one of the lower decks filled with free floating fuel.

The stubburn drone has yet to run out of fuel but it's started using less thrust as pulls on the tether.
