Tigerfish and you
« on: December 04, 2011, 09:38:28 pm »

Has anyone lost a dwarf to one of these primeval monstrosities?

For the record, they look like this:

So one would be inclined to think they would be at least as dangerous as carp. The thing's the size of a dwarf! And those teeth!  :o

Has anybody lost a dwarf or adventure to these dagger-toothed river dwellers?

Also, for the record, Toady should absolutely add alligator gar to the game:

Dwarf chases guppy, lands in river, Tigerfish have dinner.

I don't know why, but those tigerfish look surprisingly friendly to me. I think it's because they look like they're saying "hey!", or "HI!" with great enthusiasm. Or, in the case of the third picture:

Anyway, no. I don't recall ever losing a dwarf to one.

I've always been more nervous about hippos, myself. But I have had tigerfish cause interrupt spam from dwarves chilling by the river.

Also, I totally approve of alligator gar in DF.

I'm saddened by the lack of flying fish in DF though.

I mean, we have lungfish... But no flying fish? :(

With the game mechanics as they are though, we'd probably end up with the hilarious situation of flying fish literally flying, forgetting they can't breath out of water, dying, and commence the rain of fish.

Flying skeletal carp anyone? :p

Carp are so strong because they're tired of these dwarf assholes ruining their way of life.

Actually so far I've found hippo to be fairly benign, much like elephants should be territorial but are actually shy and flee rather then fight.
They did tend to chill in my riverside houses a lot, and steal food. Not sure why I made the food stockpile a strone throw away from a river full of hippo.

I can't recall any tigerfish attack in my games, only real threat from rivers I've had is crocodiles. Oh and pond grabbers if cavern aquatic life counts.
