Christmas is coming...
« on: December 04, 2011, 07:22:38 pm »

The goose is getting fat.

So I was thinking, Christmas is on the way right? So I should do something Christmasy with one of my games...

"This is a orthoclase mini-forge all craftdwarfship of the finest quality."
 ???  :)  :D

The challenge: Create a fortress for the manufacture of toys. All toys must be exported as offerings to any and all caravans that arrive (except maybe the elves, give the elves coal.)

Bonus: Embark in a cold biome and name your ruler Santa.

Dwarf(Elf?)bonus: Embark with elves instead of dwarves.

SuperDwarfBonus: Properly clothe Santas little helpers, trousers, green skirts, green tunics, and green hats.

Enjoy.

(PS: Is there any stone that shows up as red when built into a wall?)

Hmm, interesting idea. Might plan on doing this.

To answer your question, I believe Bauxite is a red stone.

Realgar, Petrified Wood, and Cinnabar are all red as well.

Though Cinnabar is an ore of mercury... Make your Elf slaves workforce well out of it :]

Jolly candy spike traps all round perhaps?

More bonuses:

Cook traditional Christmassy meals. Lots of turkey. Roasts made from dwarven flower, sugar, strawberries and prickleberries. That sort of thing.

Create a sort of magma hearth with a nearby stockpile of socks.

Create an exclusive pasture zone and raise at least eight reindeer.

Though a noble prospect, it's kind of already on the wiki

Darn! Would have thought that would have been in the stupid dwarf projects section.

(Also better still don't decon your wagon, that way you can chain your reindeer to it.)

You could also require that mining only be done to get stone, and your dwarves need to live on surface houses made of of patterned stone and wood.

Stack trees to make a massive christmas tree.
Give each dwarf a burrow full of booze that you assign them to on Christmas day.
Also, make it aboveground.

I posted nearly the same idea in an older thread, and was going to preform that in about a week*, with a few additions:

-Build the fortress out of olivine, cinnabar, bauxite, and garnierite.

-Buy raw resources off of the caravans, and offer craptons of goods to them and see how big the caravans will get.

-Make reindeer trainable. War Reindeer!

Granted, I'm not christian myself, and don't mean to promote christianity over other religions... if you really want you could use chalk and cobaltite for your buildings instead... or orthoclase and cinnabar...

* I would start it now but there were some new items released in eve online that I'm still busy capitalizing on trade from... turning 200% profit margins with nearly no effort. Once the prices stabilize on them, I'm gonna start a DF fort again.

I laugh when i hear Christmas is a Christian holiday, is so secular where I am the government uses happy holidays and most people are like "Jesus who"?. If you wanted to play a Christian Christmas Dwarf fortress you should mod in a baby cradle and then put it as a pasture with a bunch of animals and the like. Then three wisemen must get locked in. Everyone must wear cloaks/robes. What where the gifts they had frankensense, mir and gold? Well there is gold in DF.
