Dwarfy Movies
« on: December 03, 2011, 07:53:07 pm »

For you, what movies seem most dwarfy, and why?  I nominate the 1982 version of The Thing.  Here's my reasoning:

Remote embark in a glacier or freezing biome (Antarctica)

Beards!  (MacReady, Bennings, Windows, Fuchs, and the Norwegian guy at the beginning sport some good ones.  Well, for humans.)

A terrible creature that threatens to destroy the fort.  While the Thing isn't a Forgotten Beast, it's really damn scary and does a lot of damage and killing until it is stopped.  "Beware its deadly assimilation!"

Cute, furry creatures dying horribly (those poor dogs...)

MacReady needs alcohol to get through the working day, and Childs and Palmer seem to need rope reed cigarettes lol.

A tantrum!  Blair has an epic one: wrecking equipment, shooting at people, and a few dogs get it, too*

Cancellation Spam:  MacReady cancels drink interrupted by Thing.  Fuchs cancels living: Interrupted by Thing.  Okay, that's a bit of an ass-pull.

Most of the men are infected (syndrome?) and the base is destroyed in the attempt to eradicate the Thing, leaving only two survivors.  One can assume the base crumbles to its end after the film's events.

Friday the 13th.

Bunch of Dwarves embarking in a swampy biome, bringing a bunch of useless tidbits, foraging for rat weed and getting curb stomped by a bronze collosus with a steel machete.

*Edit, can't believe I forgot this.

Alien. 1979, and why not all the sequels. Hell even the predator crossovers too.
Dwarves with legendary dodging, biting, kicking, marksdwarfship, wandering-down-dark corridorsing and getting munched on by all manners of WTFMOTHERNATURE.

I nominate the Lord of The Rings movies. Why?

Legolas the Elf. "He twitched."
Gimli the Dwarf. "He twitched? I HAD MY AXE EMBEDDED IN HIS NERVOUS SYSTEM!!!"

Frodo the Hobbit. Hobbits wouldn't be too horribly hard to mod in, would they???

Ents, dude. Trees that FRICKIN' WALK!!! Revenge of the forests!!!!!

There's a cream for that. The Dwarves call it magma.

Pretty easy to do so in fact. I have no experience in modding creatures, but if you take a human, change some of their tokens here and there, diminish their size at a little lower than dorfs, you could very well do it. Modding entity_default would be cake too.

But if you wanted to get ambitious, you could also make sure they only embark in hills, make them build lil huts and hillside retreats, throw rocks, hit people with sticks and give them their own set of morale rules £:<

It would still be easy. Although you cannot make them have custom towns, only human ones.

Pandorum, easily.

Hordes of humanoid creatures hunting down anyone they find.

People going stark raving mad.

Badass warriors who have survived so long that they don't really care about anything anymore.

Flooding.

Loyalty Cascade.
