How many ground battles do you think will happen through the various stages in the game? Early, Mid, and Late for arbitrary game points.

With it happening in concert with the rest of the game, it sounds like you're going to have to sacrifice attention, if multiple ground battles, or multiple battles in general pop up.

Will you be carrying the Flag Ship concept into ground battles as well?

It does sound like it'll be prone to multitasking failure.  If your direct commands are much better than the AI, then you might only reliably win fights that you're there to lead.  If that's the case, then it becomes a matter of who's got the faster ship and can run around commanding troops and fleets, which would be highly disappointing.

Can you give orders from a distance?

Definitely gonna keep my eye on this. Very promising looking game. Obviously not expecting the same level of customization as Aurora, but that would be amazing...

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.

Obviously. I think I'm going to go, down some whiskey, and run myself a nice warm bath to dull the pain.

I have two questions:

1: Mac version?
2: Will we be able to capture enemy ships? This was always my prime tactic in Moo2, and i'd like to see assault pods/docking for just such a purpose.

Missed this!

No mac version.  But maybe in the future.  Going to finish PC, then look at porting to Unity for Mac.

Yes, ship capturing will be possible but it's not implemented yet.  You'll have to disable the ship and send marines.

On this note, will the AI be equally bad in the tactical sense?   I can at least take solace in that fact.
Auto-battle in the end is a thing about having more numbers, more bonuses stacked on and hey.. it be nice if you could tactically place defenses beforehand in preparation.

How customizable will ground troops be?  If not customizable, will there be different types with different uses and stuff?  Or will they just be... 'Ground Troops' and that is it?

Ground troop commanders?  Well, I don't remember mention of admirals... but ya...

Looks very promising indeed, dev also already posting here and answering questions. So I  couldn't resist and backed this on kickstarter, hell the man gave up his day job also (-1 lawyer +1 game, so it's win win for us ;) ).

Looking forward to trying the beta/indev out.

UNITY?! Unity crashes out on my mac all the time. It's thin gruel, man. I can VM XP, but it runs awfully slow. I'll have to hope that I've got a shinier computer, or that your optimisation is really slick.
