I should really get a game of that... and also that new distant world expansion...

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

So StarDrive is currently 50% on Steam http://store.steampowered.com/app/220660/

Just thought I'd check in and see how this game is doing with people who have/are playing it. I heard it was like Distant Worlds (Which I love) but still on the buggy/not quite balanced side. Is that still the case?

You'll get $15 of entertainment from it.  If you like strategy and/or space, then you'll certainly get your money's worth.

I'll probably get it. It's basically Sins of a Solar Empire mixed with Galciv 2, which is a very good thing in my book.

Heh. I can imagine their comments.
'Isn't that the target planet there, Ensign?'
'No sir, that's their defense patrol.'
'...fuck.'

You should try playing on Brutal.

Meanwhile, aboard the defense patrol flagship:
'Don't you just love being out on patrol, lieutenant?'
'Not really, sir.'
'Why not? The quiet eternal night, billions of stars shining quietly in the inky darkness of space...'
'Those are reflections off the enemy ships' hulls, sir.'
'...fuck.'

Not to mention another game, but does anyone remember Star Ruler where you could build a ship bigger than the galaxy?
That would be intimidating as hell for even the Ralyeh.

By sheer size only though.

It could also might as well be an upscaled fighter craft with the way SR does ship design. SR really blew it in that regard. Huginormous ships that are no different mechanically than regular ships. And can turn around in a heartbeat. They should've been vastly different, they had the potential to do it! They should have allowed the player to make guns large enough to load them with planets! And stars! I don't want to blow up a planet with a wormhole generator the size of a small moon, I want to actually toss a small moon at it!

Anyway, yeah. I really don't like how SR feels to me that it has wasted tremendous potential. ^_^

...what are the implications for the Ralyeh if their Elder God turns out to be Cthulhu who is real and on earth?

Considering that by Cthulhu mythos, the Elder Gods were technically imprisoned on Earth (well, most or some of them), by humans or no, I think they'll pretty much declare Earth their number one target and try to take it over in order to release Cthulhu. What happens afterwards is anyone's guess.

*cthulhu nerd mode activate*
Actually, Cthulhu and pals could only live when the universe was in a certain configuration. Until then, they're technically dead, but because they're Great Old Ones, death means nothing to them, so when the stars are right they'll come back to life, R'lyeh will rise from the Pacific and the world will end.

I haven't played this game since the beta, have there been any significant gameplay updates?
