The more I hear about this, the better it sounds - alas, being the poor Law student I am I've not got the spare cash!

Fingers crossed it'll appear on a Steam sale in the not to distant future!

This game is indeed looking very very sweet. Can't pay for it (even though it is quite cheap) due to various real life issues, but I will keep it on my radar.

I played a longer game the other day, and it went pretty well! So far, here's the things that keep annoying me a little.

- Fleet selection/refitting/whatever is slightly buggy. Sometimes ships stop appearing in the fleet screen and so forth.
- Some fleets just go where they please. STAY AT THAT SYSTEM DAMMIT!
- Launching a shitload of space marines needs a shortcut. Clicking on all squares of a planet to launch them into space, and a misclick closes the window is pretty annoying.
- Shitloads of space marines are OP. I used a planetful of them and just landed on all of them at each enemy main planet at a time. That wipes the planet out and you immediately gets you an absurd income/research/whatever bonus (there isn't any insurgency, etc). Of course, I did mostly have fleet superiority before landing, but that will generally be the case when you converge on one planet and he's got his token defense forces. By the time he can react, you've taken the planet.
- Missiles might be a tad OP. I've mostly been able to win everything with my Missiles Frigates Mk 1, which only need 1) basic missiles and 2) frigate tech. Spam missiles: win!
- Is the freighter AI working properly?

I definitely think there's a ton of potential to this game. I am very much looking forward to bug-squashing, UI tweaking and so forth. I'd also like some more features and balance.

I intended to play only half an hour, and all of a sudden 3h had gone by. Dang.

I also played a rather long game, finally found a mouse with a wheel to set on the side of my desk and use to zoom.  I really wanted to enjoy capturing ships, but it became a little awkward.  You can't just capture a ship, you've got to deploy all your assault shuttles, click them, and send them to the ship.  Meanwhile they're orbiting around your ship at high speed and getting shot at by anything that has guns.  You should be able to just click an enemy and hotkey, and a shuttle makes a B-Line drive straight to it.

There's also several tricky menus.  Entering and exiting menus can become troublesome and quirky.

ALSO: Remnant technology is best technology.  It turns out that Remnant Small Power Core is higher space efficiency than Antimatter Power Core.  So I made a capital ship that had hundreds of tiny remnant cores spread over the hull.  It was amazingly effective.  I had easily, a dozen canopy shields over the whole thing, and had just done a refit to mount 6 Massive Cannons (the mega artillery) before it crashed.

Anybody know if this can be picked up anywhere any cheaper than Steam?

I can't justify £20. :(

It's worth every single dollar/pound.

Desura has it for $19.99 - with conversation rates, that's cheaper than pounds.

Is it actually still available from Desura?

Says for me that it's an invite only release. I imagine the devs have come up with some sort of exclusive Steam only distribution.

Yeah, looks like it's Steam only.

I'll have to wait for a sale! >:(

I really want to get this game, but I got a bunch of other ones recently, including Heart of the Swarm, so my resources are rather depleted for the moment. 25-30 dollars looks quite steep for an indie company's first game. Might be a good one, but I think they've gotten a little greedy there.

From what I've heard, it's really buggy right now anyways. So you may be better off waiting for release and a sale in any case (and hoping the bugs get fixed by then).
