Remember Cinnabar island? Now imagine that picking the right option dumps nobles in magma.

Tarntext/starter choosing is fairly done (up to when the rival shows up and picks one, but his dialog's not done) except I broke it irreparably at some point and perlihorn's no longer choosable. I'm not pushing that version, so I'll redo stuff tomorrow probably (the current version is done up until you choose a BAYóMON, I think. Gary may have some movement issues, but it'll run just fine) and I'm going to start to pull out the guts of the events, too, to make it all work better in the future. There's a way to dynamically assign hex values for the location of the events, which will make it much much much much much easier to insert new things and tweak old ones (I accidentally had Gary walk through the wall of Tarn's lab and halfway to pewter the first time I changed his movement events...). Also, a couple notes: my uncarp just beat the rival's perlihorn... maybe tackle's ok? Is uncarp's back sprite not made/in? No pressure, just curious if I broke something because it's still a black charmander.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Wow, this is coming along nicely. We could palette swap Oak and have a simple 'Tarn' sprite, that wouldn't be too hard, amirite?

Nope, Uncarp has no backsprite yet. I need to get on that. I nearly forgot he wasn't finished.

And yes, I think we still need to do something about Perlihorn. Is there some non-normal basic weak move we can give her? Heck, we can give her something weaker than peck and tackle if you guys can think of something.

Hey, I know! How about we give her "Lick". :P That's cute, right? We have a burning ghost elephant that tackles you until you burn to a crisp, an undead rock hard fish that pecks you to death, and an adorable little pony that can sniff and lick you.

Alternately, frustration (and start with a really high base happiness), pursuit, knock off

So we can either a) change its type or b) give it a new attack. The former would probably be far more easier, mostly because I couldn't find any attack that both isn't super effective to either Fire or Water or fitting for Perlihorn. The closest I could find were Fighting moves, and I have trouble imagining a unicorn punching stuff (actually I could well imagine that, but not in a context that would work in the game).

Lick works. Its power is absurdly low, but that's offset by the fact that it hits Boatborn supereffectively; if I remember right it's base power is 15, doubled to 30 against Boatborn.

You could give it Double Kick, frequently horselike pokemon learn that move, but it's rather overpowered as a starting move- power 30 both hits.

Put them Perlihorn would be hilariously underpowered against Uncarp oh wait that's the point isn't it.

In fact Karate chop has the same stats as Tackle (other than the lower PP), buuuut. Yeah.

Rock smash maybe. Its flavour says it's a punch, but I could imagine a unicorn breaking a rock with its horn.

It wouldn't be too evil to have it start with three moves, though.

It has two abilities if I remember correctly. Higher chance of criticals.

Also it is a Fighting type move. Which for the first game means it is quite potent for the early game.

Not AMAZING but since most people didn't chose water types as their starting... It was a nice thing to have.

OH yeah, the crits :V

Actually it being Fighting is not much of a problem, what with the natural abundance of Mankeys next to Viridian city in FR&LG.

So I tested the Perlicorn with Lick instead of Tackle. Even with an early paralysis infliction, my Uncarp pretty much destroyed it.

Against Boatborn, on the other hand, it was pretty decent and unless you get burnt on your first turn you shouldn't lose.

Of course Fake tears should be replaced with some sort of offensive move then. Tackle would be a good idea.
