So, I'm beginning to get bored with Skyrim, and from a recent birthday, have $40 bucks to send. I prefer strategy or simulators, sci-fi, warfare, and racing games that have alot of action to keep me going for a long time.

So, any decent games out there? I also prefer not to buy anything off of Amazon or Ebay.

Save it 'til February and buy Crusader kings 2. It's strategyish, simulatorish, warfarish. It's also a sandbox game, so it'll love you long time.

Problem is, CK2 will probably also be rage-inducing buggyish for the first few months until they patch it sufficiently. (Not a knock against Paradox, I LOVE Paradox, but this is basically the user-experience for every Paradox game ever.)

What?! Unless you have played 200+ hours and discovered everywhere in this game, maybe sometimes sitting there just listening to the music, killed a mammoth, burnt every Jarl in every hold and viciously slaughtered Lydia in every way imaginable, I don't believe you can be bored of it.

Linear worlds get boring pretty fast... that's why I never bothered with the Elder Scrolls games after Daggerfall. Sure, it's huge, but it's still linear. I prefer sandbox!

Either way - the RPS preview of Crusader Kings II said that it wasn't buggy at all, if I remember correctly...

Supposedly paradox has learnt its lesson with regards to release times. Supposedly the game was in what they would previously had called a release state back in October and they're just spending till February cleaning it up. I mean, they're having a 3 month beta, that is a good sign, and if a preview found it had few bugs now, i'm sure there will be even less by February.

Yes. I am getting bored with it, just like I did with Fallout 3.

In australia, games are 100 dollars. Well, the big titles like skyrim, mw3 and bf3 anyway. Not so much indie titles thank god

You could always try arma 2. It is a military warfare sim with some strategy, and has many weapons and vehicles. It can be unforgiving at times, but there is an existing player base ready to help and play games with. The game also has mod support and a single player campaign.
If you are unsure about the game, you can get your hands on a f2p version, which contains a large majority of the full games content, minus mod support, the campaign, the expansions and hi-res textures.

Trust me, it is a very rewarding game if you spend some time with it.

Definitely follow kinseti's advice. Steam is bound to have some crazy Christmas sales this year, and if you're strapped for cash, 40 bucks can go a long way.

Letting you guys know, with the amount of polish and development time CK2 is receiving,  it's going to be one of Paradox's must-buys. This is coming from a fanboy, mind you, but from the dev diaries, you can see a whole lot of love going into it.

On topic: I back up the Arma and IL-2 recommendations. They are both brilliant games, even of they can be frustrating at times.
