They didn't do it until after I smoothed the area. But all of a sudden, I noticed my planter wasn't planting anything anymore. But since the field was still built, it took me a while to realize the floor wasn't muddy anymore.

Turns out that after my engravers smoothed it out, the cleaners decided to go clear away all the mud.

I re-flooded the farms, but the cleaners descended as soon as the water cleared away.

I've never had a problem with overzealous cleaners before! Is there any way to salvage my farms other than by turning off the cleaning action on every dwarf?

er... so I can't just 'roughen' it up again then?

Perhaps Remove Designation (d -> x, I believe) would help?

errrrr... no, you can't roughen them.  I guess you'll have to dig new ones.

You could stick a dining room there.

You can roughen them, using a bug: build a paved road on top of them, then remove it.

It will be fixed in later versions, though

Just use the foreman to fast remove all the cleaning jobs temporary. It will take no more than 10 seconds.
