On the subject of crippled dwarves
« on: November 28, 2011, 04:37:51 pm »

Last Question for the day i swear.

When military dwarves lose a leg in combat, and thus require a crutch to move around, are they still effective fighters despite their handicap? Once their crutchwalking gets to legendary i assume their speed is good again, but does the loss of one leg and an arm (has to hold the crutch) seriously hurt their combat effectiveness?

As far as I know they can hold a crutch, a shield and *possibly* a sword in one hand. So... not really once they can walk fast again. Don't quote me though.

Doesn't quite have the ring of heroics to it...

They will still teach your other dwarves well though, and their bodies aren't any less effective at absorbing bolts!

And the crutch gives them one more weapon to attack with.

The +Larch Crutch+ strikes the Goblin Swordsman in the head, shattering the skull, tearing the brain and jamming the skull through the brain. The Goblin Swordsman has been struck down!

It'd need to be Blood Thorn.

They're as effective.  I first fell in love with this game in my first fort when a warrior lost her husband, child and right arm, took a nap, and killed the invaders single-handedly (pun intended)

Yeah, they're good to go. I have one dwarf who hauls items while holding a crutch, a dagger, a crossbow, and a shield in her one functioning hand.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Doren from the Dwarven Checkerboard thread, ran around with 3 weapons and a shield, I think.
