Normally people that play DF provide their own tech support, but I think this question would go in the general discussion.

But since you're here, yes - it should work with DF fine. Get the latest SDL version.

i suspect the larger problem with a laptop is the keyboard. when i loaded DF on my keyboard some years ago, i found that i lacked the /* -+ keys to the far right which are used for scrolling through all of those long lists. it made things difficult.

On my laptop I bound the pageup and pagedown binds to the lbracket and rbracket so I don't have to hit shift. That and bound one-step to period.

I don't think the bay12 forums are the 'how to use a computer' place of the internet... Am I just being overly harsh or am I not the only one who feels he shouldn't have to explain how to unzip a .zip file?

You don't need winzip, get 7-zip.

Hey, I was pretty clueless on unzipping things once... When my Winzip trial ran out I had to ask my computer-nerd buddy how to unzip stuff. :P Yes, his answer was something like "Get 7-Zip."

Does no one use WinRar anymore? I remember it being everywhere when I was growing up.

I use Winrar, since Winzip can't do .rar files.

7-zip does!

And it won't bother you about anything!

WinRar's free the last time i checked. It occasionally comes up with the thing saying it's expired, but just close that window and it's fine.

I don't know why 7zip would even be needed; I thought Windows Vista was capable of reading .zip files without needing any outside programs.  Win 7 certainly can.
