Looking at active countries, the only European powers I see that are active are: Greece, Germany, Poland, Sweden, and Iceland which is named "Island" for some reason. China is also active. Spain and USA will be active soon.

France, Portugal, Italy, Denmark, Turkey, Greenland, Finland, and Belgium are all too few players.

USA is activating in 8 days 21 hours, Spain in 6 days 20 hours.

-edit- Oh and USSR is activating too, 7 days 17 hours.

You SHOULD upgrade your roads ;)
5% bonus speed each level.
The bonus is less and less visible with levels, and more and more expensive but ... efficiency !
Yeah. Though you should only upgrade railroads... Seeing how they're much more efficient imo.

Luxembourg is also active, seemingly made up from seceding german. They've just offered us  non-aggression pact. I'm waiting to see if we won't anger anyone by accepting.

Iceland which is named "Island" for some reason.
In Scandinavia/NordicLand Is means Ice. Poland might have it the same.

Yes, you have to ask on the forum.

I'm sort of expecting a war between Poland and the USSR once they activate

The only way for Poland to expand by land is through USSR or Greece once Germany is gone, and I don't see Poland discarding it's Greek alliance in the near future.

It is sad to hear that the Paradox guys are moving to Turkey, but it isn't surprising given that it is the superior choice. I instead nominate Great Britain for the new map, for it can be protected with a Navy and it's right next to the action of Europe.

Except that railroads also cost steel (and no small amount of it). Roads just use wood and cement, which most established players should have in spades by now (I have about 5 million of each). My steel reserves meanwhile, are crucial to expanding the labs, the power plants powering the labs, and even the coal mines to fuel the power plants to power the labs.

Roads also cost steel (considerably less of it, but still). The secondary benefit/detriment of roads is that they allow troops to move faster across your territory (the most likely reason for that to be important is that you are being invaded, so... yeah). Railroads however require you to coordinate with your neighbors- you  can have the most developed rail nexus in the world, but that won't mean much if there's nowhere to send the trains, while a national road network is much more tolerant of holes in it (that one province where there are no roads takes 2-3x time to cross, which f.e. if you're shipping across 10 provinces is a meager 10-20% increase in travel time)

Actually, roads only decrese travel time by 5% per level. I don't know about you, but I doubt you've got level 10 roads.

(BTW, what happens with level 20 roads? Teleportation?)

I'm able to produce trains in 22 hours now, so I could start making trains for people now at a pretty good pace. Getting everyone a train would make trade a whole lot easier.
