Are trains the only one that uses coal as fuel and everything else use petrol?

I'm guessing that only trains use coal. Unless the game developers found some sort of steam-driven tank, or if they snuck a coal-powered boat into the game.

Gibraltar could use some steel and troops and cash. Concrete and wood too. Pretty much anything. No defenses here yet. I've been talking to some of my Spanish neighbors. They seem nice, for now.

Where does it say that trains use coal, though?

On the wiki.

COAL

Coal is a basic resource which keeps the heavy industry going. It is used in steel works and in coal power stations. It is also used by trains. To make sure your province develops correctly you will need big quantities of coal. You can find it in a coal mine.

There so needs to be a way to cancel an Upgrade/Downgrade...
Went to upgrade my farms so that it would be producing enough for my city when it upgrades and hit Downgrade instead....

You can cancel, just click the building and at the bottom where it shows the progress open that up and click the X.

Thobal looking at the map it might be to our advantage to trade Gibraltar for Tetouan (below you) by force or diplomacy. It would be allot more easy to defend or attack than Gibraltar becuase its not on the Spanish mainland and serve the same purpose for us that Gibraltar does. Also the Spanish dont feel so nationalistic about Tetouan I think.

Im a bit worried about how fair this game is to new players.  Im not sure we can ever catch up to... At the same time the game is so slow paced if you get wiped out by one of these 'big boys' and have no chance to really fight back and lose weeks of progress to build sweet f all. Well how many of us have the patience to start again?

I was thinking of going for air but my neighbour is already on it. Maybe I could focus on transport planes and somebody else on paras, and ka-pow we pull a Skorzeny on Spain and flight all of Gibraltar back to the Isles.

I think the order of importance should be.

Naval
Air
Land

Air seems more important that naval. It can be used both to strike ships in the channel and their harbors beyong. And I'll laugh hard if we manage to sink a few fully-loaded transport ships: those babies cost over 1 M steel, plus all the things inside!

Paul, as you'll be our president, I'll let you decide wether I should develop naval or air power.

I am actually tempted to change my form to built a few Fuel and Rubber instead. Rubber looks to be a hard one to set up here in Britan so having someone dedicated to making it happen would be best...

I've got a pretty good surplus of coal going, so I can always divert excess to the national stockpiles. I've been expanding my coal mines as the power plants size up (research labs eat power like a mofo), but I always find that I have way more coal production than I guesstimated at needing. I've got something like 650k in reserves right now. Also decent surpluses of sulfur and rare elements.

Also working at laying in more rail connections, because rail will definitely be the route to go for moving large quantities of resources. Hampered a bit by my weak steel production, but it's getting there.

Due to improvements in the University of Dundee's facilities, the new heavy diesel engine should be out of prototype stage in about 10 days. (up to about 3.5k research points an hour now)
