Paul, speaking about factories and your train... maybe it is just a visual glitch or me not knowing the game, but it looks like you stopped production at your factories.

Yea, I just did that now since I haven't started production yet due to lack of raw materials (used up all my steel, going to be getting 60k from the next steel factory mission though) so I could use the workers to upgrade the factories instead. The factories were on when I was trying to build it.

too bad. that would have been an easy fix.
If the time to start a new production in factories is really that high, we will need to create our war industry early, and specialize in one or 2 kinds of units... will take a lot of coordination.

do you think I should start upgrading my town now? I have some spare steel that I could use, and soon I will have enough wood and cement

What the...

I sent 17500 cement and 17500 lumber. Let me know what you get, the trucks are only showing 4083 of each now that they're almost to you.

As far as city upgrades, it's up to you. Getting it to level 3 would get you an income of 4 people per hour instead of 1.

Construction continues on the University of Dundee. We should have Vehicle Engine 2 developed before diplo unlock. Then it's on to researching 1935 technology so we can start working on all those new fancy designs.

Also, plugging myself as a candidate for Education Minister since my province development is going to be focused on research.

Yeah I have my 3 Research centers dedicated to Vehicle Engine too.

id go for city upgrades sooner than later as you will run out of man power just when you need it to build all the upgrades.
upgradeing a building takes the more men than are need to run it.
red buildings are offline, yellow ones are working but not at full speed.

I wasn't online when they arrived and I can't find any log, but I doubt I got the full 17500.
It is still a more than welcome help, at this level it is worth a couple of upgrades.

Ah, andrea is just right of me. Thanks once more for the stuff, funk.
Paul, do you have the steel to build the Train iirc it takes one mil just raw steel. Bit much, but that train would help us start our economy pretty nicely.

I saw you have plenty of hills and mountains, but few forests.
I am in the opposite situation. I wonder if trading would be helpful... but fuel cost may be too great even if we are close.

Building a train now.

75k lumber, 48k steel, 7500 rubber, 7500 rare metals.

That was the easy part. With 554 production points it's going to take 17 days 16 hours to build.

If the 554 is hourly production, that's 234,896 production points. Huh? Description of a train says it takes 3.1k production points. When I ordered one built it said it would take 14k production points. How did it become nearly 235k production points? I can see a penalty for having 0 experience building trains, but making it 75x harder to build seems a little extreme.

well, the problem is that you aren't building just the train. You are building an enormous quantity of machines, or regearing older ones. the train isn't going to build itself. and all the machines, and the train, have to be planned. And lets not forget prototypes either ( although I would guess the british had some experience in train building in 1934...).
while 75x may seem a lot, I would imagine the first train would take quite a lot of time to build.

but if the second one takes ( lets say) 60x standard price, then it is ridiculous.

Lets hop it is indeed retooling. But that will make the decision on what to build as first unit pretty important. I personally would not want to do that twice. ^^

well, after 20 days, you should have a much larger industry, which may or may not reduce retooling time ( logically, it increases demand as well as supply, but it depends on how the game works).

but yes, I think it encourages heavy specialization.

Looks like it'll be a race between me building my train and the country making a major technological breakthrough in vehicle engines. Scientists vs Factory Workers, who will be victorious?

And thats something that only takes 3.1k points. I was wanting to some day build a railway artillery unit. 125k points. That should only take around nine and a half million construction points. Even with 10 times my current construction points that'd take over 70 days. With my current production it's simply >year heh.
