How do you transfer trains to other provinces without a transport ship?

Research expansion has slowed, just from the massive need for electricity and cash. I'm expanding the banks, power plants and coal mines to keep up but it takes a while. Current projections are to have 1935 tech ready sometime on 13 Jan. Any suggestions as to next tech? I'm thinking that it's counter-productive to research units we've already got a lot of, because it just makes them obsolete (and with no reasonable in-game method to upgrade them). So instead of researching Infantry (1935), maybe I should be researching upgraded destroyers or fighters or anti-tank guns or something that we'll need to produce but haven't been cranking out yet?

Maybe motorized or mechanized infantry so we encourage people to move from basic infantry into better versions of them? Maybe marines?

I don't really think it's a waste to research better standard infantry since I don't think anybody has really mass produced a lot of them quite yet, its basically just the starting ones we got when we first started and I have a feeling they will be the mainstay of the army.

Yea, researching better infantry isn't a bad thing - it means any new infantry we make will be stronger. Just because we already have some infantry doesn't mean we should neglect ever making better ones, that'll just put us in a trap where we'll always have crap infantry and our infantry will always die to the other side's infantry.

I'm not against researching a specialized infantry unit though. Marines or paratroopers would be good. I'm also all for researching ships and rocket artillery and etc too, just saying we shouldn't neglect infantry just because we have some.

I agree with Paul, and we only loose 10% of exp when moving to an upgraded unit, so loss of factory specialisation is not an issue.

I wasn't saying never research infantry, just that it might be slightly more efficient to research something else that we haven't made yet but need to, so that our first production run was already upgraded, then come back to the mainstay designs like infantry. No worries. If the consensus is to do Infantry (1935), that's not a problem.

I just noticed that Marines and Paratroopers are cheaper to research than regular infantry. That's kinda weird, seeing as they're stronger units.

Might be better to focus on Marines than regular Infantry. They're a lot cheaper to research, 20% faster, have double the resistance, and get better terrain bonuses. They also deal more building damage, and can fight against air a little bit if needed. They take 50% more construction time and some extra rubber, but it's probably worth it.

No worries. If the consensus is to do Infantry (1935), that's not a problem.

Yea, most of the designs take a lot more research though. Might be best to go ahead and grab Marines and maybe one of the artillery types (I'd say rocket artillery since it's cheap to research, but I'm a bit biased since I want to build that :P) then go on to ships and tanks and planes, since those also require ship engine, vehicle armor, and  air engine.

Just research whatever we will need. We will need marines to invade Europe, so research that. We'll need ships and planes to defend britain, so research that.

Though weirdly enough, research on the ship and aircraft engines is way cheap. Probably 2-3 days at our current ouput levels. Armor takes a good bit more, but then the individual designs take a ton of time. There's not a whole lot of rhyme or reason to the tech costs, IMHO.  :-\

I still wish I knew how to do multiple projects simultaneously, but I'm guessing it's only possible once you have more research points available than a given project actually takes, and you can sink the remainder into another project. The wiki is painfully lacking in info on the whole research portion of the game.

I think it would be best to research some ship and plane tech first. Our navy and air defense are our most important assets, as an island nation. Second, I'd say buff our artillery. Once we have some sort of fleet, and air / artillery control over the Channel, we can start thinking about marines and other stuff needed for invading.
