Brook tiles sucking up all the water
« on: May 11, 2008, 03:38:00 pm »

For a while now, I've had a brook beside a pocket-world fort (my normal fort is so big, I have to use the 2.8ghz dual-cores at school XD), however, I'm having a problem.  It seems that a pair of 'Muddy Brook' tiles are sucking up all the water from the brook (for reference, the water has drained from 3/7 to 0/7, surrounded by 2/7 and 4/7, and sometimes 1/7)- in a single step.  This is happening on two tiles- does anyone know why this happens?

The Save

EDIT: Interestingly enough, now it's gotten to where, after having had the brook dry up (partly due to the intense demands I put on it), the tiles at the south act like rock.  Right now, I'm mining out [1/7] and [2/7] water tiles.  they are NOT frozen, and they have to be mined out since otherwise I an't go through them.

More wierdness, yay:

When I mine out the brook (when not channeling), I get obsidian, not sure if this is supposed to happen or not.  It certainly hasn't before.

Version number?
Mods used?
Utilities?

Sounds like you may have used one of the tile editors and picked up some weirdness from that. Normally only the top of brook tiles will absorb water.

And were there cave-ins? Cause that way, your uper brook tiles could fall to it's bottom and start suckig water (was reported somewhere already)

Also: brooks are normally solid rock that one has to mine through.  That part is a feature, not a bug.

Brooks, at the moment, are rather hackily put together...  I don't think they should be taken as entirely intended until Toady works a bit more on the way fluids are handled.

38c
vanilla DF
cheatomatic for more starting points, no tile editors.

As a note, this happened a few times on random brook tiles, and I think I might have found out why.

First off, note that nothing has been excavated below the brook tiles in question.

I've noticed that this 'hole' is occurring below the site of a cave-in- the 'brook' tiles are falling down one floor, into the bottom of the brook, it seems.  I suppose the obvious fix is to make any collapsed brook tiles no longer suck up water

I've got a save of a brook drying out, but I haven't taken a look at it yet.
