This whole fortress reeks of fail and success :P

"Success"? Never heard of that word before. Stop making up words!

It's the word uttered as a curse for doing something insane and probably fatal.  The first use of it was when Hell was walled off completely around the map edge.

How goes the fortress, Mego?  Are they still alive in the hospital?

Wow, Toady One managed to make some pretty serious failsafes into Hell.

By the way, I'm quite sure I also fought Sox. Whether as an adventurer or during the reclaim, I don't know.

I'm beginning to think the very spirit of Dwarf Fortress itself doesn't want this place reclaimed.  We'll only have to try harder, in that case.  Mego, if you've gotten your dwarves inside, are the exterior hatches still intact?  If you can lock them, you'll be reasonably safe for the moment.

Losing is fun and winning satisfying... but come hell or high water (in this case both), DF will not let you win!

In addition try to remember that there may still be FBs inside the fort, waiting to ambush your unsuspecting dorfs.

IF you guys can get an active foothold in the fortress, you're somewhat set.  There should be lots of food and random goods, and sealing off the top of the staircase will stop anything nasty coming from the cavern levels.

Mego, if any of the dwarves recover you might want to try getting them to floor over the 2x2 staircase leading down to hell.  That should, theoretically, keep the FB's at bay even if your attempt fails horribly.

I'm beginning to feel more and more that I'd like to throw my hat in the ring as well.

My only qualifications, being of middling experience, are that I got the final save of Headshoots, loaded it up and painstakingly played cat and mouse with Holistic Detective and the last surviving sane dwarf until I managed to get them to wall HD up in a fairly large chunk of the fortress. Unfortunately, I then failed in my bid to secure the rest of that sieve of an unholy mess before goblin ambushers got in and killed the last dwarf (I'm forgetting his name, not at home to fire it up).

I shut the game down around the 6th of Slade, and the orgy was still going on. I'm booting it back up now to check.

By the way, I'm quite sure I also fought Sox. Whether as an adventurer or during the reclaim, I don't know.

Nobody else will, now. It is dead and in several pieces, with the ghost of Oliolli II standing over its corpse. I assume he's proud of us.

Update: 6/6 dwarves and 0/2 ghosts are dehydrated and hungry. They're still unconscious, so no chance of them getting food/water. The only hope now is that we get a really early migrant wave.

Update 2: The game hates me. This thing appeared next to the hungry, dehydrated, unconscious, blistered, and dying dwarves:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We're fucked.

In the hospital orgy room, right next to the sleeping dwarves. One down, 5 to go. It is the 18th of Slate.

EDIT: Perhaps this isn't as bad as I thought. The next dwarf to wake up got pissed off, grabbed his copper sword, and started slashing the Beast.

...and promptly got stung and bled to death soon afterwards. 2 3 4 down, 4 3 2 to go.

The 19th of Slate, 97, may very well be the last day of this reclaim.

That orgy just got VERY kinky.  Fingers crossed for a migrant wave

A third ghost just appeared and beat Mego III. Who will kill her first, the ghost or the Beast?

What the hell. It's the 19th of Felsite, and the fort has yet to fall. Mego III is still holding on. We may just get a migrant wave!

not likely; migrants will arrive in mid to late summer. if the dwarves are already dehydrated, then they're doomed, because they will NOT leave bed without recieving medical attention, which they will not recieve.

And I requested a turn on page 4, when spot nine was open... any chance of that happening? :P

Someone should use Runesmith to see if the the Beasties do have Ambush status.
