You're added to the list Vehudur.  This is what happens when you tempt fate.

And yes, it's good old 31.25.  There's a version with the graphics tileset used for the fort in the OP

But what's the worst that could happen?  I mean really?

The worst? Swordthunders could hear you ask such a question.

I've got a pretty modern machine with 16GB of RAM and a strong video card.

That's not going to afford you it's pity, unfortunately. This place chews through processor power, but it can just ignore video cards and punch you in the balls.

The only one this fort respects is me, and that's because I killed it slow and painfully the first time.

DF bears down on your CPU and RAM speed.  It's not really that hard on anything else.

You're added to the list Vehudur.  This is what happens when you tempt fate.

And yes, it's good old 31.25.  There's a version with the graphics tileset used for the fort in the OP

I also need a version of DT that works, because I've been playing small, efficient forts without it lately.  This gets huge bonus points if it works with the newest version as well.

But what's the worst that could happen?  I mean really?

The worst? Swordthunders could hear you ask such a question.

This could be entertaining.  I say bring it.

Debatable. Could be he's just managed to build a computer wherever the Curse takes you.

Previously on Swordthunder....

"Overseer Overseer! Two migrants were spotted on the horizon!"

"Thank you, young lad. Be on your way now!"

That son of Mitch's will amount to much, mark my words.

"So, Gem Cutter, care to explain what you have here?"

"I have no idea! I don't even remember making it!"

The most annoying voice in the world piped up behind. "It looks like a coffin. Also, It seems to be made of tanzanite, It's worth quite a bit."

That was welcome news indeed!

"So maybe you should keep this for your inevitable death. Heh heh" And she was doing so well.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

“Hello, Kosoth, How are you?”

“I’m still a bit woozy”

“I bet. Giving birth isn’t for the weak.”

“I wouldn’t trade this for the world, Overseer.”

I smiled, “get some rest now, Kosoth.”

It’s the beginning of Felsite, and we mark it with a birth. That feels good.

It’s the middle of the month, and the tree huggers have arriven. As per usual, the malformed mini-orcs showed their faces.

“Overseer! Overseer! We have a kiddie thief trapped in the cage!”

Ha! Let that be a lesson to it. “Show me, son of Mitch.”

“Yessir! This way!”

He tore down the hall that led outside. I struggled to keep up with him. Oh, how I envy the youth. I finally caught up with him. He was standing beside a tall wooden cage with a horrid creature trapped within.

“Here, sir, here!”

“Thank you, lad. I’ll take it from here. Go back to your dad.”

“Yessir!” And he tore off once again with great speed. I was breathless just watching him run.

I turned my attention to the cage trap and its occupant therein. “Hello, you seem to have run afoul of our traps.”

She hissed violently, spittle spraying forth, leaving a vile mist floating in the sunlight. “That’s very interesting. So tell me, what is your name?”

She hissed again, adding to the vile mist in the sunlight. “I shan't ever tell you. For you will be caught and quartered by my brothers and sisters.” She then cackled quite loudly.

“Overseer.”

I turned to see a bald ladydwarf in armor. “Captain, just the lady I wanted to see. See this creature? I want it not to be fed, at all. Let it starve, a fitting punishment for attempting to abscond with our children.”

“Yes, sir. I also have news, sir”

“Yes?”

“There are goblins camped on the far side of the region.”

“Lock the doors, let’s wait them out.”

“And the elves?”

I scoffed. “They're just tree huggers. If they step out of line, they can be food. Nothing like a Fey Burger to hit the spot.”

“Y-y-yes, s-s-sir.” She saluted haltingly and stepped quickly away.

I pushed a slab into place, and stepped back. I heard grunting behind me.

“Erica, you alright back there?”

“I’ll be fine, it’s just hard work is all.”

We’ve been slabbing for the better part of two months. Slowly but surely, we are laying restless spirits to rest. Erica started helping me because they started haunting her too.

“Overseer!”

“What is it commander?”

He seemed out of breath. I waited for him to catch his breath.

“Sir, they’re right outside our door!”

“So, they’re locked out. Come bother me if they break through, until then do not worry me. Dismissed, Commander!”

He saluted and strode away. “Ooh, Overseer! Ain’t you gettin’ big and bad!”

“Oh, shut it, Erica!” I grabbed another slab and hauled it to its designated spot.

“By your command, Overseer.” She feigned a salute and crossed her eyes. I chuckled under my breath. It seems she’s growing on me.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

“McRunaka, what is this?”

“‘Tis your tomb, Overseer.”

“But I never asked for one to be built.”

“I o’erhear the ole overseer saying you should use the tanzanite coffin as your own.”

I palmed my face. Of course, he took her joke literally. “McRunaka, she was joking.”

“Ach! Wha’ever, tis done now. Ain’t gon’ dig it back up.”

“Fine, fine. Good job anyway, McRunaka” What can I say, it looked good. I’m not so sure about the location.

I love my insurmountable ability to piss everyone off without showing even a hint of empathy. It's just like me!
