Look at the bright side of things, at least your fort isn't a gateway to hel-- oh wait.

The scary thing is, Spearbreakers, or possibly the very essence of the game itself, seems to be activly defying our attempts at order. And we aren't even trying to screw eachother over.

Hey Splint, how many Dwarves does it take to screw in a lightbulb... In hell?

None, Dwarves don't have lightbulbs.

But if they did, however many that needed to die so the one could screw it in.

A mechanic, furnace operator, glass maker, carpenter, pump operator and several hundred masons walk into a bar.
The mechanic asks "may I have some beer and stone?"

the bartender gives him what he needs, smiling at the thought of trapped hallways

the furnace operator asks "may I have a furnace and some beer"

the bartender tells him to use some stone to make a furnace by the magma, and gives him the beer, thinking of shining suits of armor and steel blades.

The glass maker asks "may I have some sand and some beer"

the bartender says "sorry, we don't have sand, but we have beer, so you're a mason now."

The masons are extremely angry that a lowly glass maker is given so easily their hard won title

so they burn the beer

everyone dies.

Sounds like something I would do if I were a mason. Luckily I'm head stoneworker of everything, so masonry isn't my only responsibility.

Glassmakers are pretty respectable though. Glass furniture is rather nice and glass pump components save on metal when making pump stacks.

I have no idea where anything is. I have no idea what anything does. This is not merely a madhouse designed by a madman, but a madhouse designed by many madmen, each with an intense hatred for the previous madman's unique flavour of madness.

That's it, though. Glass is something that there is always more of for the glass-worker to practice on. Stone is finite. The stone workers are entrusted with producing valuable mugs and chairs from, unique, finite, and holy materials. A bad stoneworker wastes the very bones of the earth, or clotted earthblood, in the case of obsidian. A glassworker can be anyone, for there are no materials to waste, and no holiness to sacrilege (sand is a surface material). The glassmaker is FAR below the status of a stoneworker.

You know, it's been two days since Hirotcon last posted anything here.  Not even to say he's started or general conversation.  Uh-oh...

I... don't understand why you are excited about that. Baron = death, usually.

Swordthunders' original Baron was Doren. She was the single-most badass siege-killing dwarf I've ever seen.  She went outside with a spear, axe AND sword to fertilize the front lawn with troll and goblin parts.  On her own.

If anything, Mego IV's got a lot to live up to
