Unit file corrupted/missing
« on: March 12, 2007, 05:35:00 am »

Hello, people!

I receive this message when playing Fortress mode. I tried reinstalling, to no avail. I am using Dystopian Rethoric's tilesets. Help me please, my fortress was just beginning to actually function!!! I had just lodged my first three nobles....

The unit files are files created during the game to store the creatures.  They are accessed constantly during the game.  This sort of message generally pops up if you've reloaded a game after a crash or after leaving the game in any way other than saving (ctrl+alt+del for example).  It won't happen immediately, but just when the game tries to access the file that is out of sync with the rest of the save game.  It can also happen from copy folders over each other.  It's possible there's a bug causing it, but the things I've listed are more common.

All right, so I must start again. What the "gently caress"... Sometimes I have to quit without saving, especially when a cave in finely minces my best brewer! Any clue, please?

There are instructions on how to backup your saves at the top of release_changes.txt.  You just need to copy the data/save folder after saving.
