The palm trees refer to weight. The bronze ones are created in your fort.

You'll need a dwarf with the appraisal skill, the better his appraisal skill, the better his price judgement. Then you'll get the Urist * symbol showing their price.

The symbol is, more precisely, ☼.

Charcoal (from the wood furnace) is actualy made with the wood burning skill - separate from the furnace operating skill, so make sure wood burning is enabled.

Also, with all the animals running around - may want to put a few in cages to keep your FPS form taking a dive, depending on if this is a problem for you.

when deciding which animals to put in pens, think if they eat grass or something else. rabbits, sheep, cows, they need to eat from the ground. Chickens, dogs and others do fine in a cage. This is especially useful in raising puppies or chicks. Also, you can have the rooster in a cage and chicks will still hatch from eggs

You can get easy thread by growing pig tails, then processing them at a farmer's workshop.

If no pigtails are available, you can dig down into the caverns and have a spinner collect webs to make silk thread. Does come with some obvious risks.

Including the risk of not having spiders at all.

threads come from processing pig tails or rope reeds in a farmers workshop, shearing and then spinning wool (i think dralthas have wool too :D ) at a farm workshop too, or as said collecting spider webs. ALSO, IMPORTANT, go to (o)rders, (W)orkshops, and turn off "auto loom all thread", which has a very annoying tendency to use up all threads and make cloth

If you ever DO run into a noble problem, such as unreasonable/costly demands, you can always get rid of them by wiring a floodgate beside their room filled with water, or, even better, magma. Add a little handy lever next to the side of it, and if any noble starts ordering your poor staff around, assign him to the room and make him pull the lever.

Also make sure the door is sealed completely. ;D

Not too insane, please.  We've got the insanity of The Master to deal with, I don't know if we can survive two ponies being totally bonkers

Or alternatively you could just replace the noble with a different dwarf. Currently this means that while they will become unhappy, no dwarves will be punished IIRC. Works with everyone except the baron who if you kill the baron then unless they have children they will be gone forever, so you should think twice about killing them.
