You are the Witch Maiden.
Being a Maiden - the youngest of the three - you are generally placed in the position of a student and apprentice to the Mother and Crone.
Though born an elf in the magical Fairyland, you had never felt quite at home with their bonfires and orgies. The incumbent Elven Queen, notorious for her cruelty even amongst the elves, killed her drones and workers at will. Taking great joy in the harvesting of humans, she had set out on the Hunt as often as once every two weeks - and even though you knew you needed it for your survival and growth, you deplored every action and every minute of it. The others treated these creatures like animals, slaughtering and and exploiting them with no care for their feelings or their plight, but you knew that they should be treated - no, deserved to be treated - better than that.
This was primarily why you had been selected very early on by the Witches to become their Maiden. As the Elves would never forgive someone for fraternising with "the livestock", your unique relationship with the humans has been kept a secret, and you've lead a double life for decades. You were content to merely sabotage some of their operations from within, communicating occasionally with the witches to share news and opinion.
That is, until at your coming-of-age ceremony, the Queen decided to organise another Hunt - this time targeting a major city, and with you in tow when leading it.
The other witches had sensed this upcoming event some time beforehand, but had chosen not to tell you. Now, however, the crone considered the recent profusion of Elven invasions to be significant enough to warrant its consideration as an imbalance in the Way of Things. It needed to be dealt with, and while there, the witches explained, we could investigate signs of another, more sinister presence.
Thus, you would go along with their plans for the time being - women like you would never be able to face up to a direct assault against most things, nevermind the Elves - and by taking advantage of the rising tension already present in the city, sabotage their efforts to assimilate the unsuspecting townsfolk from within. Remembering the past incidents with witch hunts, the crone added that subdual of the townsfolk would most likely be necessary as well.
You came with the sunset, and as the royal couple charmed their way through the main gates posing as a two-man acting troupe (the Queen was no man, but it rarely mattered to the humans) you waited outside and, as per the directions of your coven sisters, possessed a citizen inside. Fidning yourself in a new body was disorienting at first, and had you not found yourself comfortably in bed in a cordwainer's workshop you're certain you'd have freaked out.
You had become Giles Dynham, a famed but rather reclusive cordwainer. The house was quite literally full of shoemaking equipment, as if that was the only thing he did with his time, but strangely no shoes - on each rack was a scrawled note saying "Sold out, wait for next leather shipment. There were a few incompetently made paintings on the walls, dusty with age, and old notes for strange stories, but that was the extent to which you could see his pastimes.
You, knowing nothing about shoemaking and shoe repair, are forced to close the shop for the duration of your stay. A potential customer finding out about the swap would be disastrous.
The witches' advice still rang clearly in your head. You were to rendezvous with the Elves for the time being.
"So, what next?" you asked.
"Go with them for the time being. We'll wait until something happens."
And so, returning to the Elves, you ask about the next step.
"The Hunt will begin tonight. I'll make sure to bring you along for the first blood," the Queen said.
Your heart sank, but you trusted the Witches. Perhaps something good will come of this after all.
"Don't worry, my dear daughter. I'll make sure we'll have fun - I know just the place to find a few screamers."
