Hide Root in meat pile?
« on: March 11, 2007, 08:59:00 am »

I'm not sure if this is a bug, and even if it is it's not a serious one... but it seems that whenever I make a storage pile that is set to only store meat, my dwarves also store all Hide Root plants there...

How did you disable plants in the custom stockpile menu? Did you "f" Forbid them all or go through and deselect each one individually? I know that Hide Root is at the very bottom of the list and I miss it frequently.

I've never had a problem with it turning up in a meat pile though. Have you tried deleting and re-creating the stockpile? If it was an older pile that once accepted all types, then maybe something's hanging around that shouldn't be.

I made a new custom stockpile, then enable food -> block all -> manually select all meat types from the meat/fish menu.

The first thing my haulers put there was three stacks of Hide Root.

If you've verified that the plant is not lit up, and you make a pile for the roots, do they move them?

I have a separate pile for plants, and they're not moving them there. But that may be because my fortress is horribly inefficient and my haulers are getting flooded with jobs running all over the place, I don't know.

I haven't got a separate pile just for the roots, if that's what you mean. I'll try it and see if they move them then.

Are they going into a plant barrel, or just on the pile? If its going into a barrel, it could be that the barrel is scheduled to be placed in the plant stockpile and nobody has got to it yet.

Many a time I've seen farmers hauling food way across to the meat stockpile to barrel it before someone shows up to move the designated barrel to the plant stockpile.

Apparently, as soon as a barrel is designated to go to a stockpile, things can be placed in it. So if you have a distant stockpile that has an empty barrel, such as the meat pile, it might be assigned as a plant barrel and have haulers bringing plants to it from across the fortress before someone finally decides to move it to the plant pile.

Yeah, it's in a barrel. I thought they moved the barrel to the pile when the Hide Root was already in it, but I guess it makes a lot more sense if it went the way you said it did and they snuck in those roots while I wasn't watching.
