Sam blinked. I... guess this is OK? Maybe humans are always like this. Then again, maybe James was flirting with her. She decided to try flirting back; some of the other Asari she had trained with back in the academy had been pretty blatant with their overtures and she'd picked up a few things from listening in. Besides, she was still an extremely young Maiden, she should try to be a little more relaxed about things.
"If you say so, James," she said with a smile, taking the drink from him. She'd already finished her own. So you're good with machines, then? she thought as he mentioned he was the tank commander, then asked her deal. "Thanks, by the way," she said, indicating the drink before continuing on. "Well, like you, I'm sort of a last-minute transfer. I wasn't told if I was assigned to be either the sniper or a rifleman, but I'm sure I can do well in either capacity. I'm a Vanguard by training, so I'm pretty good with shotguns and offensive biotics." That was enough about her training, it was boring anyway.
"Um, what else... well, I'm pretty young for an Asari at barely a quarter century, and I just graduated from the academy back in Asari space. My parents, Alece T'Edrina and Ashgho Dath - my dad's a Krogan, he taught me most of what I know about combat and got me into the military in the first place - live on Illium. This is good, isn't it?" Samane paused to finish her glass. "I like action movies! All the explosions and heroes fighting to do the right thing. I love it when the hero gets pinned down and has to come up with some clever shooting to take out his enemies." She smiled at James. "What about you? What are your interests?"
