"Are there other W-60 units around?" Saru questioned, looking over the one Sheb was controlling. He rotated his leg gingerly as he did so; the engineer had done a good job, but he wasn't sure anyone other than himself and Spectrum-registered personnel were supposed to be messing with him. Company secrets could be lost if just anyone worked on him! Nevertheless the missing 5% functionality had been restored, so after weighing the matter carefully he elected not to say anything that could be interpreted as hostile.
He took a few steps around it, analyzing its weaponry and movement capabilities. "A stable spider-leg design is efficient for a machine designed for heavy fighting. The lasers may present a problem of excessive power drain but it is highly probable you have already compensated for that, and they eliminate the problem of lacking ammunition for prolonged combat." He didn't have lasers installed on his own frame because they were more visible than conventional ballistics. In the head of battle, it would be very hard to trace a bullet, while a laser would create an obvious beam that could easily be tracked back to the source. Of course part of that was the difference in their functionality; S.A.R.U. were meant to hide, shoot from the shadows, and do general recon before reporting back. The W-60 looked like it was meant to march in rank with several others at the front of battle.
In any case, if there were no other W-60 around, why did this one need a special designation? He was the only S.A.R.U. around so the name sufficed, or if they wanted to be specific they could refer to him as Thirty One. Then again in his estimation there were around ten billion humans and no accurate census data on other races; it was little surprise some needed multiple designations to answer to. The engineer who had overseen most of his creation, for example, had been listed as William Adam Emerson the third in his personnel file, but apparently the other engineers had seen fit to give him yet more designations as 'Will,' 'Bill,' and 'Caffeine Freak.'
He did not understand how ingesting two liters of coffee on a daily basis made one a freak.
