Heroes- A Moderately Original Text Game
« on: November 23, 2011, 02:30:02 pm »

Fame, power, and gold, are what awaits successful heroes in this world. You never hear of unsuccessful heroes, except in jokes. Will you step up to become a hero, or will you remain a peasant your whole life?

Welcome to a text adventure thingy, I haven't seen very many of these lately, so I decided to start one.

Name: Handerys Castowar
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Descript: House Castowar is an old and respectable house...Or at least it used to be. It was founded by a trader of foods, named Gendarys Cast-to-war who saved the local ruler in battle with a timely shipment of rotten cabbages to the enemy camps. For his initiave and seeming loyalty to the ruler, he was granted the rights of nobility. For several generations, Castowar was a house known for it's few real estates and more for it's large network of merchants and businesses. Course that all changed with the majority of Handerys' father, Ferryls Castowar. He wasn't good at management at all. He gambled away most of the ancient fortunes of the noble house, cut contracts, sold off businesses, stopped payment to employees, and stopped all the charity work started by Geffar Castowar half a century ago. This was when our hero Handerys was born. His early life was spoiled and he even assumed the same views of his father. Not till his 14 birthday did he see the waste and corruption his father had led the once noble house into. With much rage, he poisoned his father's food and for good measure, secretly poisoned his father's concubine. When his father finally succumbed to the poison (he's not sure if it was the food or concubine that did him in), he found that he did not in fact become Lord of Castowar, but rather that his father had SOLD OFF THE HOUSE TO A BLOODY MERCHANT! Naturally, Handerys was more than angry, he left his ancestral home and went out to "talk" with this merchant fellow. Things didn't work out and long story short, the merchant is resting in a grave, Handerys is an outlaw on the run, and there's a strange lack of poisons in the merchant's city.

Name: Devlin Harper
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Description: Devlin was born in a small cross roads town to merchant parents.  While not rich, his family was much better off then most in the town and Devlin spent most of his time away, receiving an actual education.  While he was certainly gifted he couldn't finish his education after his 12th birthday for he fell ill, and was bed ridden.  This couldn't stop him from teaching himself however, and he became a voracious reader and read what ever he could get his hands on, eventually teaching himself new languages so he could sate his thirst for knowledge.  Eventually his father also took ill and passed away, his mother quickly followed in her grief.  Devlin tried to stay afloat with his inheritance, but with no money coming in from his father's store and stalls he had to sell the business and with it his home. With a few books, some clothes, his walking cane, and the minor sum of money received from the sale of his family business, the young Devlin made his way out into the world, deciding to view things with his own eyes, and learn what other's have not.

Indecision is a thing I sometimes have. I'll try not to do that once the game actually starts.

King, that looks Good, although you'll be a bit squishy...
Micelus, you skipped picking skills, but I'm guessing poisoning and lieing or running from the law, but otherwise good. You'll be a bit squishy as well.
Everyzig,  looks fine.

Indecision would get you killed in the ruins of the major cities. ;)

Did you take archaeology or historical knowledge as a skill?
I don't think so...so uh...no.
You'll hear rumors and remember legends heavily watered down by the church or goverment, however.

Name: Cecily
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Backstory:
Cecily was born in a town, to a place where no one, especially a girl, wants to be born into, a whorehouse. She was poor, or rather, she didn't have any property, so she learned quickly the ways of stealing. She had to learn in order to survive. Cecily knew that in time she would have to do the same job that every woman did in that cursed building, so she decided to escape. The escape was a success, but surviving would be even harder now. Cecily has been living a life of thieving, hunting for a proper prey at the market, to get the coin so she could buy food, or sneaking to the local butchery or bakery to steal food. A life like this couldn't continue, something had to be done, and Cecily is now determined to change her fate.

This morning I found myself looking at the numberplates of the cars on my drive in to work and seeing them as tileset characters in ASCII... a silver Renault I was behind had an interesting scene of a Human wrestling a Minotaur near a bin.

How common are mages and magic items? Would you for example see mages guilds in most cities, and do nobility have magical swords and such?

JOB: Looks good.

We seem to have a smart person, a good talker, a good thief/talker and a fighter/basher. The standard fantasy group...
First turn up in a moment. Once I determine your starting items and such.

How common are mages and magic items? Would you for example see mages guilds in most cities, and do nobility have magical swords and such?
Magic is incredibly complicated and dangerous, so you would probably see a few wizard towers in the wilderness and a guild in major cities. Probably only the high-up kings and nobles and the higher level adventurers would have magical stuff. Although you really shouldn't trust magical stuff, it has a tendency to stop working when its most needed, like when your about to slay that dragon, or save a town full of innocent people.
Many adventurer's last words have been:
"You can't beat me, foul {insert monster name here}, I have a magical sword/armor! Haha!"

I like how my charisma is the same as the person with the highest charisma, but I'm just considered a "smart" person.

I have an intelligence of 12, would I be able to know why the major cities are in ruins?

Quote from: ADVENTURING BOARD

Hello there, newbie adventurers! You may be wondering where to start? Well look no further then this board of adventuring.
Safety in the Marshlands: Its usually a good thing to stick together in groups if your new to adventuring, rather then go it alone! It's also usually good to bring rope and a thick staff along with you to the Marshlands, mainly because of the dangerous crags and gullies, as well as quick sand and potholes. The Marshlands are a huge area of land, so it's usually good to bring a map ! Or a tombstone.
Also   beware the ruins of cities, they may look like good camping spots, but unholy creatures live within them.
It's also good to bring an item of iron or silver to ward off goblins and their like. A foraging kit and book may be a good thing to bring along with you if you going to stay in the Marshlands for longer then a few days.
Enjoy your life of adventuring! Bring back lots of treasures and items of value to sell and keep Crag's economy booming!

Well, now that you're in Crag, what do you do?

((Mouseover on Item names for info and if you have more than 1 fame or infamy mouseover on that to learn at what levels it is.))
