Saves Confusion
« on: November 14, 2007, 09:57:00 pm »

I'm playing with seasonal saves turned on.  I've lost two games, one to a crash and another when I succumbed to an invasion.  After that, I'm given the option to both "continue playing" and "start playing."  I choose to continue, hunt up the most recent seasonal change, and continue from there.  When I save that game, I think the changes go into that seasonal save folder.  I think the save needs to overwrite the regional folder.

Along those lines, could you list save files chronologically?

Thanks,
Rylen

I just hopped onto the forums to post about this, actually.

Yeah, if you go to a restore point at a previous season, things can get pretty confusing with the paths, especially since it will try to display two different folder paths on the same line. I can only imagine what would happen if you went back twice on the same file. Would end up three folders deep in the save directory.

Err, what? Autobackup doesn't make folder trees, it just renames your saves according to chronology. If you continue a backed up save, it is already named, f.e. "region3-aut-1058", and it does a seasonal save afterwards, you end up with something like "region3-aut-1058-sum-1059". All you have to do is clean up the unneeded parts of the name, and the unneeded save folders.

If you want to continue from a seasonal save and have everything work properly... you have to delete everything from region1 folder and replace it with the files from the season backup you want to use. Continuing from a backup playing a bit and saving/exiting doesnt seem to save all the data. I've done that and been missing a couple months of playtime even starting from the same subfolder.

Short version: manually removing and replacing the files works best atm.
