McClellans troops assault dug in confederates again, suffering huge casualties and utterly failing to break them. It seems the Confederates wont be defeated through the peninsular and will hold on.
General John. F. Reynolds arrives with a new volunteer division to McClellans army.
Late SeptemberGeneral Fremont continues to fight raiders in the north, they stubbornly resist.
Early OctoberUnion troops at Winchester under Banks are defeated by Robert E. Lee's division and driven back.
Late OctoberNathanial P. Banks HQ was attacked in the previous battle and largely destroyed, it will take some time to organise a new staff. Until this is ready Banks is withdrawn to Philidelphia to work as a recruitment officer.
Lincoln (me) orders the withdrawl of the army of the Potomac from the James Peninsular, McClellan wont attack and Washington is getting more at risk from attack.
National draft is issued, and the first coloured troops are being put into Uniform.
Lincoln issues the Emancipation proclaimation: All slaves in states currently under rebellion are now and forever free.

The army has already been withdrawn to Baltimore to fight there. Winter is comming and most troops are settling into winter quarters and preparing for the battles of 1863 to come.
Early DecemberHarpers ferry falls to confederate troops. We will get it back when the snow leaves.
Late DecemberA new Union army corps is formed under General George G. Meade.
Late FebruaryNathanial P. Banks returns to Washington in preperation for the 1863 Campaign against the Confederacy.
