Planning wise, we have two things to Consider;

1) How shall we combat A. S. Johnstons army

1) How should we assail Richmond? Shall we flank down the side, or assault it directly in force?

Also, Should I reorganise the eastern armies? this would take about a month, but we possibly could have better leaders in command, Banks' army is particularily poorly led.
We still have Mcdowell in command of the main army, I dont think anyone else can doit yet however. He's also been fairly successfull, I think we should allow him to continue his good works against the rebels.

Spoiler: East (click to show/hide)

*note, I will provide better maps so we can think properly XD the game map is rather to cluttered to show easily.

Command changes:

Kearny will replace Banks.
*Banks has high renown, and has done his part for the war, I won't relieve him to be Kearnys underling - I will transfer him West to possibly take an army command once again.

Thats it, we have no one suitable to replace McDowell, and he's been doing well so far anyway. Grant is by far our best quality leader, someday he will get transfered east, obviously A. S. Johnston needs a severe raping first.

OOB

Man, why couldn't you have taken the Grey...oh well. One of my wife's ancestors was a Lieutenant in the 120th New York Infantry (which at this point in the game would be in the Excelsior Brigade, probably under Sickles), and a few of my ancestors were in the 52nd North Carolina Infantry (with Pettigrew's Brigade at this point).

If the Excelsior Brigade is there, I'll take command of that (or whatever corps it's attached to if a brigade is too small to command).

Currently the 120th NY are under the command of.

General C. Hamilton, a good attacking commander, then D. Tyler an average commander. Currently they have no losses and I assume they havent been directly involved in many of the current battles. Though they will be from now on.

Sirs, I think it is critical to isolate Richmond as much as possible before committing to a siege. As it stands now, the city has too many approaches by which it can be resupplied and reinforced. A siege that allows the enemy a back door is no siege at all. I therefore propose, sir, that Hamilton's corps and McClellan's corps be dispatched in force to drive two daggers into the Confederacy, one to either side of its head. Once enfiladed, the city may be besieged by these two corps and whatever sundry forces can be mustered to strike the city directly from the north.

If the enemy holds his place, he will be trapped. If he retreats south, he will have lost Richmond. If he strikes north, he will have lost Richmond *and* be unable to penetrate deeply enough into our defenses before finding himself short on supplies.

The main hazard is if the Rebels bring up more forces from deeper in the heart of the Confederacy and attempt to surround one of our pincers. Therefore it is vital we have a detachment of scouts to the southwest of Richmond to guard against this.

(Of course, I can't tell who the hell is who on the map, so this may make no sense at all....)
Oh, and does this mean I get to be D. Tyler? :D I'd be thrilled to be average.

Sounds like a plan, and XD you can be the corps commander, I'm not that mean :P

August 1862

In the East...
McDowells army takes heavy casualties attacking Confederate general Longstreets army at the battle of Louisa, Virginia. Entrenchments are giving the Confederates the ability to fend of huge armies and survive to fight again.
We lost 6980 men, Longstreet lost only 3859.
It seems the Rebels intend to contest the Flanking of Richmond.

Grant Takes Bowling Green after a short battle with A. S. Johnstons rearguard. Buell also takes Nashville a day later, hurrah!

In the seas, we sunk the CSS Alabama, a Confederate Ironclad. Hurrah for admiral Dahlgren!

Lincoln Proclaims to free the slaves! Southerners are outraged, but the war is enobled. Hurrah for the Union!

September

Grant launches several assaults against A. S. Johnstons rearguard, losing 2460 men, but defeating the rebels.

In the East, Joseph E. Johnstons army has been surrounded and shall hopefully be defeated soon. In the west, A. S. Johnston has flanked again east, however Grant is moving east to meet him.

Benjamin Butlers army have nearly finished reforming in Annapolis, Admiral Farraguts fleet will ferry him south to capture New Orleans, hopefully.

November

The first US Coloured troops are put into uniform, a new resource of manpower to help destroy slavery has been utilised at last!

J. E. Johnston has been defeated in the Shenendoah Valley, he must now withdraw his army in the freezing cold of winter. Bad luck. I doubt his force will ever be a threat again.

Joseph B. Hooker is promoted to Corps command.

In the east....

McDowell defeats Longstreet again, but at the cost of 5000 men. The Confederates also lost 5000 men.

Grant attempted a sneak attack on A. S. Johnston, and was defeated. He lost nearly 7000 men to Johnstons 2300. A bad day.

January

A. S. Johnston repels another attack by Grant..... just die! Despite casualties, the country is behind Grant.

Also, I feel like i've really got the hang of this game, so I will do the Confederates after this. I really would like more people input, but the games so damn hard to show! Example is some provinces have like 8 Corps of infantry on different tabs, you only see the top picture in screenshots(and a number beside for other units)!

With the Confederates from the very beginning I will give people commanders and they can give orders. It will have to be army comanders or detached corps commanders, the rest can just get a report on how theyre doing until/if they get promoted to independant corps/army command.
Of course the people under corps command could still discuss with the army commander if they agree with the strategy.
I will also guide strategy based on the game system, so you guys have something to work with.

*I will run the rest of this through quickly and move on to the Confederates, I think this will be a 1864 win.

I will just start the Confederate one, its always the most fun anyway!

As the Confeds I'll do the full 1861-65 game.

People can take anyone they like, but wont have direct decision on the strategy unless they are promoted to a command either army or corps.

Some ideas for commanders:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

*This time its a game! Your goal will not only to help me win the war, but also to raise your 'seniority' (gets lower for winning battles and participating well and higher for blunders, seniority of 1 is better than 2, 2 better than 40 etc.)
**If you don't know who people are or who suits you, just suggest something and i'll pick for you. I.E. a good corps commander, or a commander whos reckless, or a cavalry commander etc.

I'll wait to begin for about 3 people so its abit of a competiton! but people can always join once the game has begun too.

Spoiler: Current Generals list (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Missouri Militia (click to show/hide)

I expect this fellow Price to capture Missouri for the Confederacy. With the help of the Texan General Sibley.

*I'll do maybe one more turn then wait for input (most units are frozen as they are forming at the beginning of the war).
For now Price is marching north slightly to Springfield to forment rebellion against the federals in Missouri. He has a skill which causes partisans to raise in the state hes in, also he has some militia to use.
