Gatleos set the paper on the table, looking over the rest of the group assembled on the convention floor. It was a ransom note, written with letters cut from magazines and caked in white glue. It read:

Dear Bay12,
We have your precious Toady One. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

"So here's what we know," he started, "Toady was kidnapped some time before we got here, and the culprit's name is blacked out at the end of the ransom note. At least that's what we thought, until we discovered the same thing happening on the devlog entries. This means two things. One, the benefactor who paid for DorfCon is in league with these kidnappers. Two, the names of these kidnappers have an anti-memetic effect, making them un-rememberable. Only one type of being has this curious quality, thus this can only mean one thing: Toady was kidnapped by banned forum members!"

Toady's been kidnapped, and the devoted members of the Bay12 forum have to rescue him and get back to Redding in time for DorfCon 2016!

Why did Toady get kidnapped? We'll just fill that plot hole with expo-spackle when we get to it. This is a freeform RP after all, and the story will develop as we go.

As the title suggests, this is going to be one hell of a road trip. Join in any time you want. Hitchhike if you have to. You'll be playing as yourself, a real person who acts just as insane in real life as they do on the forums. So... that's about it. There aren't any rules other than "don't be a dick". Get to it!

Bdthemag stared in disbelief at the note.

He quickly jumped out of his chair, and flips over a nearby table. "WE MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, RIGHT FUCKING NOW DAMNIT!"

There aren't any rules other than "don't be a dick".

Are there other implicit rules I missed?

* Barbarossa TSG remembers that he is late for the convention and drives straight through the wall of the conveniently nearby Redding Convention Center. He takes off his sunglasses.

"I already knew that."

* Barbarossa TSG removes his sunglasses and grabs the emergency shotgun out of the fire extinguisher case. It's time to get nuts.

((No, I just assumed since it was freeform RP you wouldn't really do "action" type things. But then again I'm a traditionalist when it comes to roleplaying, carry on.

la stared in disbelief at Bdthemag and walked over to put the table right.

"DUDE! You knocked the goddamn table over! I told you about that already a hundred thousand times. Now, what's on thi- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

He kicked the table over in fear and anger.

"Man, I think we should probably do something about this RIGHT NOW. Cup of tea, anyone?"

[Gatleos]

Gatleos slammed his fist on the table.

"Dammit people, we need leads! There has to be a clue around here that can point us in the right direction..."

[Darvi]

"Hmm... we should first gather all we know about this case."

*Puts on thinking cap hat*

"First. We know that one the toadnappers is wealthy enough to afford donating so much cash only for what would amount to the biggest trolling attempt ever.
Second, whoever it is, they used to be one of us.
Third, they're massive douchebags.
Fourth, I can't be bothered to think any more, my head hurts. Hand the brew over."

*takes a cookie out of his pocket and nibbles on it thoughtfullessly*

"Okay, okay, lets think. Who the hell would want to take Toady? We should make a list."

Derm fiddled with a pencil, avoiding all eye contact ever.

"Maybe it was Notch under a fake name?"

[scriver]

"Oh my god!" scriver said in broken English, nervously twisting the cord of his over-shoulder bag around his fingers. "The toad is already endangered enough as it is? Who would hate animals so much? Waitaminute... I bet PETA had something to do with this. We should investigate the local chapters!"

[Darvi]

"I kinda doubt that Tarn is a literal toad rather than a humanoid with vaguely amphibious characteristics.

Wait, did anybody even ask TT if he knew anything about this? He should be our best lead right now.
That is, unless some kind of fanatic barged in right now claiming to have implanted a tracking device into Toady or something. But what would the odds of that be?"

*looks at the door, waiting for exactly that to happen*

[Heron TSG]

"Maybe it was Notch under a fake name?"

"You're right. Pathos."

[Darvi]

"Can't be, I'd know if I'd done something like that. I think."

Woose sits at the back of the room, fiddling with a paper clip.

"It seems to me that we should probably have a solid course of action before making any wild conjectures about the kidnapper, and see if he/she has any demands. And as you all know, Tarn is actually a boat."
