This is DF.  The concept 'good idea' and the concept 'safe' do not belong together in the same sentence.

......LAVA?! LAVA?!!?! LAVAAAAAAA??!!?!?!?!
Try embarking on a volcano and using the [k] cursor to examine it, and you will observe that above-ground magma is called "Lava" and even the surface of the semi-molten rock is called "Lava Flow".

WE ARENT TALKING ABOUT PRISSY ABOVE GROUND MAGMA!

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Posts in thread answering OP's question: 1
Posts in thread spouting forum memes: Just about everything else.

Really, guys?

Anyway, Rolk, if you're having to deal with not having very many magmasafe materials, your best bet is to channel into the magma sea from some safe point where your dwarf won't be exposed directly to the caverns, and let it fill a pre-dug reservoir. Then, use a controlled cave-in to drop a wall into the channel. Presto, you've got a limited but completely safe (relatively speaking) supply of magma. The cave-in technique does take some practice, but if you've got to worry about baddies getting in through the breach, it's the way to go.

This forum commits a lot of atrocities (torture and mass slaughter of goblins/dwarfs/elves/clowns/kittens, re-enactments of Cupcakes, mermaid farming, anything involving MAGMAAAAAAA) on a regular basis, and I laugh at them all. Mangling English? Not funny.

OP, you claim to be an honors student at your school.

ACT LIKE IT.

Well, perhaps english honors as a school foreign language. Like in america taking honors spanish.[/reasonable_person_*gasp!*_on_these_forums?!?!?!?!11?!!]
...
But yeah I think he doomed himself. We're not necessarily spouting memes, we're just using the memes to correct an ... error ... in the op.

OP:

I wish I could answer but it's just too confusing (and too little punctuation) to help answer your question.

(Maby OP doomed him/her self when they said the are doing English Hons)

Yeah, this is about the point I lost my cool. Up until that point I was content to rib OP for not knowing the difference between lava and magma, but them claiming to be an honors student and not even giving a shit about basic grammar set me off big-time, as another (former, graduated) honors student who doesn't understand why people do this.

You're on the Internet, OP, where your writing is the only thing most people see about you! Why wouldn't you put some basic effort into making a nice impression on the internet?! This isn't texting or Twitter; you don't have time constraints or character limits here.

If something's worth doing, isn't it worth doing right?!

ETA: And ESL kids actually care a lot about English grammar, in my experience.

That has almost no resemblance to anything in the original post.  ???

But if this is what the OP is looking for, this article, and the list farther down on that page, will probably help them.

Make a normal glass forge.  Forge a glass block.  It's magma safe.

Alright, after many failed fortesses I have finally found lava. Yay. However, it's in a cavern with alot of enemies, mainly a Bronze Colossus and some lava beasties, and I was wondering: Can I use the same technique I use with my well with lava and just seal of part of the cavern with walls? As in where I channel into an area and have a grate followed by a floodgate to seal the chamber when I have enough? The reason I don't use the Pump-Stacks-Magma-Pistons technique from the Wiki is that I don't have enough resources due to lack of lava safe items.

Fixed.
