Now, I'm not new to Dwarf Fortress, but one thing I never really got into was water (or

, though I did make some volcano traps once!) mechanics and I was wondering if you guys had any creative suggestions for uses of water. This can be anything from aqueducts to water based traps... any if anyone could tell me how basic pumps work that would be appreciated. ;P

Ohh. Allow me to offer this, as a rebuttal.

EDIT: In my defense most of my magma was on the surface via volcanoes...

To answer the op...
* Mapleguy555 pushes Necro over and walks in.
Waterfalls. Mist generators. Public baths.

I'm liking the public bath idea, should go well with the city I am building. And it's nice to see someone moderately sane here :P
I mean after lurking for a year or two, I've found maybe 5?

EDIT: On that topic, will dwarves walk through waterfalls if there is a floor grate?

There's only two things certain on bay12forums. Necro910, and thread derailment. And we're not even sure about Necro910.

To answer that waterfall question, most likely not.

If you've only got 2/7 or so water falling down, dwarves will probably walk through it just fine.

If I used a pressure remover, do you think that would do the trick? I've made a waterfall before with two separate pressure reducers going to it but I'm not sure if people walked through it.

I don't know, try it and see. Most of my waterfalls involve a 2-level pump stack pumping 2/7 water above the room and dropping it back down.

Trapdoor-leading-to-crocodile-infested-pit trap. Build it in your mayor's throne room, and use it on liaisons who act unfavorably during meetings.

By the way, I would like to say that I am, in fact, very much sane, thank you very much. I would know, I told myself so just the other day.
