(( Shortly after Jaxler's arrest : Indigo's testimony. ))
(( Looks like I'll have to write this after all. ))
I was temporarily drafted by Partisan into the guard to help with Jaxler's arrest. Since I'm his squad captain, it was my responsibility to be there. I put on my armour and took my shield and axe in case things got out of hoof. For the record, they are not mine, they are only borrowed to me, but I've been using them for a while now. Shortly after Partisan told me about the arrest, Kat came along. She wasn't wearing any armour, but she had a crossbow with her. I asked Partisan if he had somepony watching Jaxler's window, so he sent Kat to do that.
When I was getting ready, Falcata came along in her full combat gear. This was her time to take the watch in front of the keep, but she volunteered to help with the arrest. She stood in front of me, to the east of Jaxler's door and Partisan knocked on it. He told Jaxler to come out and surrender. Jaxler agreed, provided that we let him go peacefully and that he could keep his crossbow. Partisan told him that we were just there to escort him to a cell, but he couldn't keep his crossbow. Now, I just can't see how a prisoner could be allowed to keep a weapon, so Partisan was perfectly reasonable.
Jaxler agreed to go peacefully, but when he came out of his room, he started yelling, that he won't go anywhere without his crossbow, which he didn't have with him at the time. At this moment Sarissa came out of her room with an axe, so me and Falcata explained, that we want to take Jaxler alive and Sarissa said, she wouldn't kill a fellow Dawnpicker. I thought that settled it, but more on that later.
While me and Falcata were talking to Sarissa, Partisan was trying to reason with Jaxler, search him and disarm him of any weapons. Now, I know Jaxler and he can be quite deadly with any blunt or sharp object, so Partisan's request was perfectly reasonable. Yet Jaxler mocked him, by calling his brass horseshoes, obviously meant as weapons, "fashion accessories".
Jaxler argued about keeping his crossbow and said, he would rather die, than part with it. Partisan answered that the crossbow would be locked in the Keep until Jaxler gets out of prison. Jaxler answered that he would rather die than trust Partisan with his crossbow and knocked him out in one hit.
Sarissa was the quickest to react and tried to knock Jaxler out with the blunt side of her axe, but Falcata tackled her, saying something about not letting Sarissa kill Jaxler and the axe hit his wing instead, breaking it. Now, some might say that Sarissa was using too much force, but there is no telling how exactly Falcata altered the force of the blow and Jaxler
is tough and dangerous. It was prudent to use too much rather than too little force on him in any case. On the other hoof, well... Falcata is impulsive and Sarissa has a reputation for going violent, so I can see why Falcata assumed Sarissa was going for a kill. But it was all a misunderstanding and Falcata did more harm than good by interfering.
I yelled for backup and tried to hold down Jaxler with my telekinesis, while the two mares were wrestling and arguing and Jaxler was yelling about "not getting slaughtered, like an animal". I managed to more or less hold him at the threshold of his door, but not to disable him completely. You normally need about three unicorns for something like that, and I'm going to recommend that tactics to the guard.
Meanwhile Granite, Friesden's coltfriend and Jaxler's follower, got out of his room. I think he heard all the yelling. Just to put things into perspective: From what I know about him, he did nothing, but drink, steal and idolise Jaxler for years. He also somehow got into possession of a golden chain at about the time of the Rainbow Pony massacre, which is above his ability to own. He even somehow managed to train using it as a weapon, without authorisation, as far as I know. When Granite got out of his room, he saw Jaxler and run next to him in a misguided attempt to interrupt the arrest. I was too busy with Jaxler to do anything about it, Falcata was still wrestling with Sarissa and Partisan was unconscious, so I yelled for backup again.
Meanwhile, Jaxler got a hold of a knife and Falcata finally left Sarissa alone, grabbed an axe and told Jaxler to put his knife away and surrender. Granite run into Jaxler's room, screamed and it made Jaxler go berserk. I haven't seen, what happened inside the room, but from what I pieced together, Kat has flown close to the window, tried to shoot Jaxler, but shot Granite instead. Now, while she might have hurt Jaxler seriously, I wouldn't hold that against her. Jaxler resisted arrest, had a weapon, and Partisan was in Kat's sight, lying unconscious. The way I see it, she was defending Partisan's life, but Granite accidentally got in her way.
Hearing a scream, I yelled "Get out of there, you idiot! We're trying to arrest a criminal!", but it was too late for that. Seeing his wounded drinking buddy, made Jaxler go berserk. He simply lost it. He yelled, he was going to kill Kat and threw his knife at her, which I was unable to stop. I later learned that she got seriously wounded, but at the time I continued to limit his movement, hoping that somepony else finally helps me with it.
Fortunately Sarissa helped me hold him still and Falcata first slammed him to the ground, then knocked him out with the blunt side of her axe. Jaxler's last words were "Let me the buck go, so I can kill that monster!" I assume, he was speaking about Kat.
When Jaxler was knocked out, Sarissa took him to prison, Falcata flew out the window to help wounded Kat and I checked up on Partisan. I woke him up, put all the scattered weapons in my room, took a piece of cloth to stop the bleeding and we both took the wounded Granite to the hospital. After that I stayed with Partisan for a while and we bumped into Virtue and Sarissa. We talked, and then I went to sleep and that was the end of it.
Jaxler wasn't just defending himself. He resisted arrest, struck first and wounded some guards. All we did was telling him to surrender, then knocked him out. This should be perfectly clear.
NOTE: Granite tried to interrupt the arrest and got in the way. I'd say a little taste of what it means to be on the bad side of the law will do the stupid colt a lot of good, before he turns into another Jaxler. This warrants a criminal charge against Granite.
(( Omicega: I give you my blessing for Jury to use Indigo as she sees fit concerning this case. ))
(( Scripting Indigo's behaviour: Indigo actually calls on all the horseshit that Glaive is trying to pull in Jaxler's defence, when he learns about it. He helps Jury to get things done in any reasonable way he can. ))
(( It may be possible to sway Indigo a bit in Jaxler's favour, but not much. If he is ever assigned to guard Jaxler's cell, he wont leave it, unless told so by Virtue, Partisan or Halberd. Glaive won't get rid of him. If Indigo sees Glaive giving Jaxler alcohol, he will interrupt it and argue. Glaive MAY persuade Indigo into not reporting it, but Indigo will insist that it repays all his debts to Glaive for training with the reserves and disapprove on top of that. Other ponies smuggling booze get reported. Indigo is a big believer in duty. ))
