GAME! Justify the previous persons absurd statement
« on: November 18, 2011, 02:28:24 am »

First poster makes some statement that doesn't make sense to them. It is the job of the next person to make some hopefully semi-plausible justification for that statement, and then provide their own statment. Starting two:

Computers are going to be the downfall of all civilisation
-------

- using computers for everything is very tempting, as they are more efficient and powerful than ourselves. However, once we rely on them too much, all it takes is for a single malicious hacker, a solar storm from our sun, or a poorly written program (with a bug), and suddenly everything that we rely on computers for will collapse. If all that falls apart, we're back to the dark ages.

Candy Land is the best board game ever made.

The pieces are potentially edible.

This is totally not a pointless forum "game."

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

This forum game is better than any other forum game precisely because it has isn't pointless. It helps people reason and rationalise unlike most forum games, and also helps us recognise BS from good arguments. One only has to look through any other forum post to find lots of those.

Painted walls without pictures on them aren't boring at all.

I like colors.

This should be in the forum games section instead of general discussion. It even says so in the GD top block text.

OP was extremely lazy.

The lack of colour ("white") is the final remnants of a long dead species of interstellar civilization that cruised the universe uplifting worlds.

(note: good call, I was lazy. I also had no idea what I was doing - but at least now it's moved. I promise to give more chances for other people to post after this one too :) )

In fact, the very definition of white light makes this a very likely prospect. White light is the combination of all colors simultaneously, as any high school science student will know. While we don't know the exact mechanism that these long-dead species used, we do know that to transmit the maximum amount of energy, or the maximum amount of information, then they would have to use as many parts of the spectrum as possible. Of course such high technology might leave traces, but those traces are hard to detect considering it appears for all our purposes to be simply white light - which we have evolved to think is a natural occurance. Now, if I were a superior being with this sort of technology, it's little wonder of what I would do. I would travel around the universe to improve it wherever possible. And what have we seen since the first recorded history of white light? We have seen humans become exponentially smarter. We have seen plants (which evolution has only seen fit to have them absorb red and blue light, not white), suddenly become healthier and more diverse. This all points to a past when white light did not exist, with an exponential and undinable proliferation on earth.

Water and molten magma are really made of the same stuff.

The earth rocks during an earthquake. Like a ship on water. The earth is on molten magma. Therefore molten magma and water are the same thing.

Ironing boards are actually based upon the design of the legendary impenetrable Mycenaean tower shields. Properly built ironing boards are actually military ranked anti-tank rounds shields in disguise.

In fact, this happens whenever a graphite core is inserted into a rotating magnetic field (such as the vicinity of a motor) under pressure, the effect is just too miniscule to notice at the scale it usually happens at.

Most laptop computers aren't actually designed to be used on one's lap.

Wait, where's the absurd statement? Most laptops heat up too much to be used on your lap, especially because your lap will obstruct the fanflow.

Popular songs get parodied, Rebecca Black's Friday has hundreds of parodies. It must be the best song ever.

Space travel is expensive, and it would be much better to design one from the ground up than to refit an existing vehicle.
