Like a Rogue
« on: November 17, 2011, 08:06:34 pm »

I'm desire a Roguelike.  As I'm way too cool and important to take a break from snorting powdered gold and eating petrified tree frogs to google it, the Bay12 peons will have to wipe my ass for me on this occasion (metaphorically, I have people to do that for me in real life.)

Knock yourself out.
Hopefully not literally.

I recommend "Dweller", or "DoomRL". (Note: Language on the second.)

Here you go:

(All you need to know is that you can replace all your limbs with bananas.)

Hm, might as well ask this while the thread is up: anyone know of any roguelikes with an extremely detailed magic system? (preferably, necromancy?)

Well there's always Mage Guild, but the one thing I dislike about it, and similar roguelikes is how easily all my effort is just washed down the drain.

My friend just reminded me about Triangle Wizard. While not a roguelike in the sense of controls and the real-time element to it, it certainly has similar gameplay and you can and will die at the drop of a hat. Mage-to-mage fights are particularly intense as well, with split-second choices often deciding the outcome of the battle. I'd recommend it to the OP.

How would you NOT want to take a break from that cheap filth ... Real men snort powdered platinum and eat Tasmanian tiger brains :P...

I'm desire a Roguelike.

Maybe you should look at Rogue survivor or Cataclysm RL

Cataclysm RL
Now you're just being redundant, as Cataclysm was made to be a roguelike.  If anything, it would be "FalloutRL" as I understand the basic inspiration came from Fallout before Whales went his own way with it.

That aside, Cataclysm is fantastic if you've got Linux.  It's great on Windows too, but the dev writes in Linux and another user ports it to Windows, so you're at their whim to when you get your updates.  Currently like a week late on this past update, I'm hoping that it's on account of holiday...

People call it that to avoid confusing it with all the other things called Cataclysm.

Prospector is a good one.
And if we're going to talk about sci-fi rougelikes, prospector and 3059 are also good. Well, 3059 isn't good, but it isn't bad.

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.
