Humiliation in the training room
« on: November 17, 2011, 12:23:32 pm »

So I'm trying to get some experience points for new recruits by sending them in to battle naked goblin prisoners.  These two gents, fully kitted up in steel armor and training swords to maximize the battle time, stride in.  The ordinary goblin spearman kills one by punching him in the head THROUGH THE STEEL HELM and cripples the other by breaking both legs using his PIG TAIL HOOD as a weapon.  Sigh.

Better yet, use Runesmith and convert him to your civ as a reward for his badassery.

Too late; he's an enemy of the civ now, and changing him to your civ would just promote a loyalty cascade when your dwarves kill him.

Were your "soldiers" actually modded infants by any chance?

You sure they were goblins? They sound dwarfy to me...
Seriously, I have no idea how it would happen, but I hope you got a laugh out of it - I think I would have. After the initial "WTF moment".

Ah, the randomness of combat never ceases to amaze, does it?  From personal experience and what others have said, it's not uncommon for people to get punched in the head to death, despite armor.  I'm hoping Toady fixes this sooner than later, but it'll probably be a long time.

So wait, the goblin beat the other dwarf into submission using his own hood?  I thought the goblins were naked?

Naked enemis are not as training-efficient as armored ones. Armor makes combat longer, granting more experience. I wonder if or why OP sent steel-armored dorfs to fight completely naked enemies.

That is quite a high level of badassery for a goblin, You should preserve it if it's still alive.

I can just imagine the goblin, sitting alone in the room, when two fully armored dwarves bust in...

dwarf:"you're going down, goblin."

goblin:*slowly stands up* "bring it."

If they were that easily killed then the goblin saved you the time and effort that would have been wasted training them. Also, make a palace for that goblin, he sounds like the goblin Cacame.

IF your dwarves kill him. It sure looks he could murder whole fortress with his pig-tail garderobe and wander off into the setting sun, playing harmonica.

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.
