Bone and shell armor, all the same?
« on: November 16, 2011, 02:27:48 pm »

Does the source of bone/shell give any mods to the resultant armor?  For instance, is FB shell armor stronger than simple turtle armor?

I'm not 100% on this, but I believe bone armor is the same as leather in that it receives no bonuses or detriments from whatever it came from. A cloak from the leather of a single kitten is just as effective as that from a crocodile.

Drat :(.  It would be cool if those get added in one day.  Dragon scale armor for instance would be awesome if it could be as light as normal leather, but provide protection similar to iron.

Generally all leather types and bones are the same in every regard except value.

The main exceptions are for creatures that live in magma (such as fire imps), as their remains typically have greater heat resistance compared to regular corpses. Basically magma creature leather and bone is good for outfitting your dragon hunting champions as it is fireproof, but is mostly useless beyond that.

Most materials like Leather, Glass and what not use placement value holders to determine their armour values and stuff. Not to sure about this though.

This sounds very Skyrim to me, and I approve.

I'm very unfamiliar with the entire Elder Scrolls franchise... but all I hear from friends these days are Skyrim this and Skyrim that.  I might just give it a try this weekend.  As someone not willing to play through all the games that came before, do you think it would still be worth it?

Well, I'm a big elder scrolls fan, but I'm not going to touch Skyrim for about a year till all the bugfixes and quality mods come out. A word of warning though; these games have a tendancy to really suck you in. I played Morrowind for about a week straight with breaks only for food and 5 hours sleep a day. Dangerous.

Generally speaking, the games stand alone. They exist within the same continuity, but with different characters and places and plots and time periods, you don't need really to play one of them to "get" the others.

Incidentally, if you play with the Genesis mod some creatures do have hides/scales etc made from special tougher materials, the best of which is dragon bone/scale (better than steel, less than candy). This both makes tough monsters tougher and stops a dragon bone short sword being a joke. Also the fucking cold breathing dragons not only freeze you dwarfs to death but if something simple as small as a sock or ☼adamantine battleaxe☼ has a coating of the stuff on it and a dwarf hauling it back to the stockpile and happens to pass through a decon trench the the water will freeze, atom smash the dwarf and whatever they are carrying and then, because the offending cold contaminant no longer exists, unfreeze. It can be a great way to lose 5 legendary axedwarfs, 5 full sets of ☼bluemetal equipment☼ and  37 useless haulers.

or maybe Valve goes out of business because they invested too heavily in something which then fails - like, say, human civilization.
Alternatively, initiate strife to refuse additional baked goods, and then abscond.

Yeah, in a sense they all are separate plots with some significant events that effect one another. Although I must say, Skyrim is the least buggy elder scrolls game to have existed ever, already its less glitchy then any other Bethesta game in place currently (of course, they are not buying their engine from someone else, and are using their own home-brewed game engine.)  Its probably the best game thus far, the main glitch is that the graphics run poorly on nividia machines (And giant adventurer ball http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oso_mmhvm-Y -He leveled up from taking that hit too!,) but the patch for that is almost finished (graphics, not giants.)

Really? In my opinion, it's currently worse than Oblivion was. That being said, I only picked up Oblivion a few years ago, well after its release, and it was the Game of the Year edition. I suppose most of the bugs were patched by then.
Anyway, so far Skyrim freezes up and lags on me all the time, there are some serious NPC pathing problems here and there, and a few enemies tend to warp around while I'm trying to shoot them full of arrows.

the world gen has only ever made two dragons for me, so whats the use of outfitting people to fight dragons when they are so rare?
