Well, they only get like 2 choices or something. Hard to blame them at this point.
Intelligent/Knows how things work, and follows through competently.
Bipartisan/Knows how to keep everyone happy
Charismatic/Well-Liked by government, media, and the people.

Even what may sound ideal there may not be the best for our country overall. I'm not much for the extreme types, regardless of side; do too much of a good thing (relative to who you support), and it can have either some repercussions, or recoil violently out of control. I speak as a full non-voting independent, with knowledge that sometimes the best of intentions follow through on bad ideas. Sometimes, what is best for the country, may not be the best for it's people, and vice-versa.
With any politics involved, I only really propose that any governor, or anybody running for office for that matter, should play some Civilization, Fate of the World, or SimCity at least a few times, so they can at least evaluate themselves how capable they really would be if they were that high in the political food chain. Sure, they may be games or simulators, to a degree, but at least it'll get them using their atrophied brains, and learn whether they really are good leaders or not. So far, my analysis watching government work is that it's full of delusional schizophrenics. So much to the degree that nut houses are even calling them out on their insanity.

I'm aware you meant it in a different context (see ↓), but I think my post still shows an interesting other perspective willing non-participants/non-voters like myself tend to see.
