When a brook froze over during winter, I dug a tunnel into it, then went up top to put in a channel (bring some light down, just for fun).  When spring came, the brook melted, but the spot with the channel did not fill back in.

I noticed this when the bit underneath the channel area was brown instead of blue, looking at it lists it as outside, and the turbulent looking top of the brook wasn't there anymore but was permanently 'open space'.
